I have a Toshiba SD-R 5272 8X DVD burner. I have tried burning using some of the 8x dvd's but usually they do not burn. I have been using Memorex 4x DVD+r's but apparently they have quit making them. Any help telling me what I should use, or why I am having trouble backing up movies would be great. Thanks.
Memorex are not highly regarded here. They are like most brand names of media: Outsourced to many different manufacturers. Each manufacturer has an ID code. Cmags/prodisc/ricohjpn/MCC are just some of the manufacturers memosux uses.So quality will vary between these manufacturers. The MCC memorex would be some of the best-but maybe a 10% chance of getting them. Cmags would be the highest percentage of what you'll get-75%.Very difficult to know which ones are the good quality memorex.
The higher quality media will prevent a lot of issues later. Higher success rate-less coasters-longevity-and stand alone playability!
Get that firmware updated,if there is a newer update for that drive.
Get some high quality media like Taiyo yuden/verbatim/or japanese sony-fuji-maxell.You can find some excellent prices on the japanese sony-fuji-and maxell here in the states at Office depot/bestbuy/and staples. Just look those outer wrappers over carefully for Made in Japan. Maxell/sony/and fuji also outsource their media. The taiwanese spindles/case packs will be mixed in with the japanese ones.Same price/different countries. Japanese and sony +8x = taiyo yuden media. Japanese maxell +8x = Hitachi.
+4x media is getting very hard to find. Best bet would be Best Buy and their Verbatim Digital Movie quality +4x discs. They have sales on them about once a month.Excellent Mitsubishi-MCC-002 media.
