Okay so I bought a DVR for christmas, and its workin out great for me. However it only burns straight to DVD, which I can get to run on my PC just fine, but I would like to convert one of the shows I record from the DVD-RW to the PC which I will convert to make a DVD of that show once I have enough episodes. However since I record a bunch of shows some editing will be done (I only want to save 1 out of 4 shows I record every night) however I have little experience with this and would like to know the best way to convert to an editable format which can then be converted back to DVD without quality loss (or as little as possible).

As a sidenote I've done minimal editing with Virtualdub to cut down on some online shows to fit on my PSP so I'm not a complete idiot.

Well DVD Recorders Record the Video in either VRO or VOB format Both of which are basicly just mpeg-2 files....

What you can Do is use a DVD ripper Like "Smartripper" to rip the DVD to your HD as a Big Single VOB or VRO file...Then if you want to edit the VRO/VOB files you can use a Native Mpeg-2 editor like "Womble Mpeg2VCR" or "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" which will allow you to edit the VRO/VOB files and save them as Mpeg-2 files without any Quality Loss...

Once you have enough episodes to Fill a DVD all you have to do is Load each Episodes Edited Mpeg-2 file into a DVD authoring program (Like Maybe "Tmpgenc DVD Author" or "MediaChance DVDLab Pro") which will allow you to add a Custom menu were you can select which eppisode you want to watch and let you add Chapter points and Scene selections, You can even make Menu"s from video Clips or add your Own Music to your menu"s or pretty Much do anything that you find on a Retail DVD accept to do that you would need to use a More advanced DVD authoring program Like "MediaChance DVDLab Pro" as "Tmpgenc DVD Author" is far to Basic.....
