Hi all

Have done a quick search but am missing what I'm looking for:

I have several ISO's of UMD Movies (e.g. Sin City)...my question is - how do you actually play the buggers?

I've tried via Fastloader but no joy - can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance

right apparently you can use umd emulator 8.0c to play umd films (i'm saying apparently because i havn't the ability to try what i'm going to tell you so im not sure it will work)

anyway you can try it for nothing

you want to download/instal UMD emulator 8.0c

then you want to have this set up

have a UMD film in the drive (or the demo disk)
put your UMD iso in the iso folder on your psp
boot up your psp and UMD emulator
you want to have these settings
ISO emulation mode = system menu
Disctype = video
disctype umd = video
updater icon = removed
use boot .bin = on
regioncode overide = on
regioncode game = regionfree
regioncode video = regionfree
regioncode audio = regionfree
flash0 emu = off
flash1 emu = on (mainly for the text fix on ghost in the shell this setting)

press x on your iso
then your taken back to your main psp screen
highlight your umd in the menu
it should now be the iso film you wanted to play

please note i believe they have to be the same region - i could be wrong though

Hi RavenLife - thanks for the info, much appreciated...I seem to be getting somewhere now!

I don't suppose you knoww which CPU/Bus speed setting I should have specified? (Curse my infernal fiddling!)

Hi again RavenLife -

Thanks for all your help. I've gotten a little further but really am at a dead end now...getting

'This disc cannot be started.
The region code is not correct.'

...which is just a bit weird, as I have a R2 Ghost in the Shell UMD in the PSP, and at the moment trying to watch a R2 Oldboy UMD ISO from the memory stick.

<bangs head against wall!>

Can someone that has successfully watched a movie ISO from their memory stick provide any light?

Ren

Ha ha! I got it working!

If anyone is interested, the settings I used are as follows:

For film iso's:

CPU/Bus speed : 222/111 Mhz
ISO Emulation Mode : system menu
Disctype ISO : video
Disctype UMD : video
Updater icon : remove
Use boot.bin : off
Regioncode override : off (this setting disables the next three settings)
Flash0 emulation : off
Flash1 emulation : off

For game iso's:

CPU/Bus speed : 222/111 Mhz
ISO Emulation Mode : direct load
Disctype ISO : video
Disctype UMD : video
Updater icon : remove
Use boot.bin : off
Regioncode override : off (this setting disables the next three settings)
Flash0 emulation : off
Flash1 emulation : off

After you've loaded a movie iso successfully, you should be thrown back to the Game / Memory Stick menu...use your PSP to browse to the Video menu, and you should see the title menu of the movie iso that you've loaded (it will appear as a UMD)!

I hope this info helps someone?

(Thanks to RavenLife for pointing me in the right direction initially)

Regards

Ren

Hi Ren and Ravenlife, I have been following your thread and I hope you can help me :-) .. I have a Region 2 PSP with Firmwawe v1.5. I bought some UMD Movies in the UK. Some work (Pirates of the Carribean, Depeche Mode 101, Matrix Reloaded, Hitchikers Guide), some others (Sky Blue, Appleseed, Fifth Element) dont and I get the message "This disk cannot be played". All the UMDs are Region 2. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks!!

Hi RogueWolf

You've got me stumped!
As I understand it, they are all original (bought from a shop?) UMD discs, yes?

I'm not sure what the problem is - I know that some UMD movies will not play unless you have updated your firmware (an update will be included on the UMD itself); I had this issue with 'Ghost in the Shell' - wanted me to update to v1.52 firmware.

But that gives you the message 'To play, you must update the system software.'

What I would do in your situation is take the UMD's back to where you bought them from, ask them to test them for you?

Update: I've just done some research, and found this on the wikipedia site:

"Movies, on the other hand, are usually region-locked. There are ways around the region protection through such programs as UMD Emulator (currently this is only possible through firmwares V1.00 and V1.50). It should also be noted that, despite what many websites say, Region 1 PSPs are capable of playing Region 2 and Region 4 UMD movies, and Region 2 PSPs are capable of playing Region 4 UMD movies (except the Region 4 version of Be Cool for an unknown reason). Note: however at least some region 1 PSP's with V.1.5 canNOT play region 2 (European) movies. Probably there is a difference between the Japanese and European region 2 settings."

This info doesn't help an awful lot - ultimately I'd suggest returning the UMD's to wherever you bought them from and get them to test them.

Where are you based? What version (Europe/Jap/US) PSP do you have?

I'll be interested to see how you get on!

Good luck,

Ren

Hi Ren, thanks for your feedback. I was in England over Xmas holidays. I bought the UMDs from HMV and WHSmith. I played a couple of them and the ones I tried worked fine (next time i will know better and test all of them). I flew back to SE Asia (where I am working and where I bought the PSP) and that was when I noticed the problem :-(. I am getting in touch with a PSP dealer in Kuala Lumpar and i hope he can spread some light on my problem. I have Firmware v1.5 but I also use FastLoader to play my ISO. I will keep in touch. My understanding was that "The disk cannot be played" meant it was not the right Region .. but i get this on a UMD with Region: ALL on the casing. For each of them I can get the Preview screen when I select UMD.
