i used kazza and that was shite, i like emule cos it has loads of stuff, just always getting disconnected off the servers.
winmx is good, but takes years to get anything. never tried edonkey.

If you want to download small files, kazaa is better I think. movies or games are better downloaded by emule. edonkey is too slow I think. but thats just my opinion :)

Ok two things, Kazaa P2P is loaded with spyware. If your want to use Kazaa, use Kazaa Lite K++. Also, eDonkey/eMule are only slow when you first use them, while I am no expert, you may want to refer to the tutorial posted by Dela on this same page.

Most of the large files on kazaa are corrupt so like 'cyrus^ da' said ... if your gona be downloading large files then go for emule. Personally its my favourite as it has loads; you just gota leave yourself connected to it for a while (permanently as I do!) to make it worthwhile. Kazaa is fine for mp3's tho.

eMule is the best of what you mentioned. eDonkeyHybrid is ok! winmx is not great and kazaa is only good for mp3 and even at that its not great! DC++ and eMule are my favourite p2p!

DC++=DirectConnect?

I've found that eDonkey is probably the best and most reliable p2p source to get software. eDonkey works in conjunction with Sharereactor.com and the system can provide a safeguard against downloading fakes, corrupt files, or files infected with viruses.

Any file that holds status as a ShareReactor release has been checked and verified as legit. If a copy of the legit file has been modified in any way, even slightly (like getting infected with a virus) then that modified copy's hash ID will change and will lose its status as a ShareReactor release. It gets "weeded out."
The one drawback to eDonkey is that it's sometimes difficult to configure it to get maximum download speeds, so for a lot of people it tends to be a bit slower than other p2ps.
Overall though, it's a far more efficient p2p than Kazaa or WinMX, at least in my experience. I can get faster downloads in Kazaa most of the time but most of the files I get are unusable for one reason or another. I'm batting a thousand so far using the eDonkey/Sharereactor combo and despite the slower dl's I'm coming out way ahead.

I use eMule basically 24/7 and sharereactor is a blessing!! Who cares about speed when the stuff you are getting is actually real! DC++ beats eMule at dvd-r trading (basically if you know the hubs!).

So far all software Ive dled off of kazaa has worked not corrupted or infected. So I have no reason to switch to anythin else plus the fact of not knowin where to go for any others except win mx which I hate.

I'll add just one thing that is hopefully not controversial.

Shareaza is often successful at working perfectly behind a firewall or a broadband router, in situations where the same person was unable to get WinMX, Kazaa, or any of the earlier Gnutella clients to work. I've seen this with a lot of friends so far.

I didnt know that now but that wouldnt really bother me lol. you should only use p2p at home anyway, not where you shouldnt unless you like getting in trouble!

True, but everyone who has a DSL or Cable connection at home should use either a router or firewall software, for security reasons. And that's when a lot of the popular p2p apps can't get through. In many cases you just need to know how to configure them, setting up the right ports etc. But even setting the program up right, lots of filesharing programs still won't work behind a router if you're a customer of certain ISPs.

Every application I've downloaded with Shareaza has worked perfectly. 99 percent of the 2,200+ mp3s I've downloaded with Shareaza have been completely clean, full length, and of the correct artist & track. The only bad point about Shareaza is it doesn't have enough users yet so there's less selection overall.

But I'd take small selection and fast, perfect copies over huge crappy selection anyday. I can't compare to DC++ 'cause i've never tried that; but compared to WinMX, Kazaa, and eDonkey I'm very pleased.

For me eMule is too slow to bare while downloading.
Kazaa is very useful and the speed is good!
I heard that each p2p software may take different effect in different area, isnt it?
By the way,I am in Shanghai,China.

I have never EVER downloaded a fake file with eMule since i first used it!! Not ever once!! eMule works off queues so if you are the kind of person who would leave a movie downloading for a hour and then crib and say "oh look, its only gone a small bit, eMule sucks, ill close it and move on the the wonderful kazaa" thats full of crap!!

You are supposed to run eMule 24/7 and dont say thats bad for your computer!! Because they are built for it!! One its your turn in the queues the speed increases rapidly!

So why would i chose that over kazaa??
Well, if its a movie, chances are its not on kazaa, or is but as a tmd!! I'd prefer the real release and not a downsampled file!!

eMule is NOT for the mp3 scene?
Individual mp3, hell no!! you would wait too long, thats kazaa's job, however, full/pre-release albums are very popular in zip and rar files on eMule!

I personally prefer quality to speed!! And even saying that I can get upto a good 100kb/s with eMule now! Kazaa is the place where you download one file and then download another and then anopther but emule is where you slap a shit load on your queue and go to bed! After a while all the files will be finished and you will have GOOD QUALITY stuff!

Something like that yes. its kinda like....

500 sources are there for a file but that doesnt mean those 500 have the full file. Some may only have a few parts of the file!! However you may not have a part that they have so you download it from them and may upload a part that they dont have to them!! Thats what eMule means by awarding uploaders! Basically, if you were downloading a 700mb file and you changed its share priority to Release (Very High) then 90% of your uploads will be what you have of that file. And if you upload some to somebody you will have priority to download from them a part you need. This is why having friends on eMule is excellent so they can establish a friend slot whicjh means that you will keep downloading from them until you have all the parts they have and even if they get another part from somebody else then you will get that too! Its quite confusing when you get started I know but its easy when you get used to it!!
