I was at www.viper-chip.com and they state that you can update the Viper Extreme using DVD-R. See the following link http://www.viper-chip.com/gfx/fscreen2x.jpg

Does anybody know how and what files you put on the DVD-R?

What does ISO9660 mean?

Just burn a data DVD-R. It should be ISO9660 by default.

How do I know for sure? I use HP DVD writer and it uses Veritas version 4.56 to write DVDs. I can't find a setting to set ISO9660.

Should I be able to write the BIOS to a DVD and use that DVD to update my Viper GC Extreme?

That simple?

Has anyboy tried this?

It'll be in the options of your DVD burning program.

For example, this is where it shows up in Nero Burning Rom.

Venom5880 or anybody else,

Have you tried writing your BIOS using a DVD-R? Does it work?

No, since I've had no reason to. I just flash my Qoob Pro via USB.

Why don't you just burn it and find out if it works or not?

Better yet, why aren't you using USB?

I just purchased viper gamecube extreme from modchipstore(fast delivery!), downloaded cobra bios 1.6 from them or get it from tehskeen forum. Inside the rar file was a .iso of the bios ready to burn to DVD-R,+r. I used DVD-R fujifilm, worked right away, no problems!. I have not had any problems at all with this chip so far, boots everything(ritek mini DVD-R, fujifilm regular dvd-r), and the usb adapter works for backing up games!

I flashed my BIOS with Cobra 1.6 but I am finding out that Cobra does not force NTSC on my PAL games. I wanted to direct flash with GCOM 1.5. I know that this BIOS works on the Viper Extreme. How do I direct flash from a DVD if Cobra is already on the BIOS chip?

Wouldn't flashing GCoS on top of the Cobra BIOS keep you from reflashing it? Thus preventing the use of the USB and onboard flash?

I want to flash the BIOS with GCOS or GCOM using a DVD disc to play my PAL games and whenever I am going to backup my original games I reflash to Cobra BIOS to use the USB. I can flash using the USB except I don't want to be switching the USB board switch too much because the USB board is to flimsy. I placed it in real hard to get position. So if I use DVD disc to flash I won't have to get to the USB board switches.

First off brewgod, you will end up rendering that chip dead if you constantly flash bios back and fourth.Try going into the settings of the 1.6 bios and try enabling the PAL-60hz for games. will play PAL games at NTSC frequency!
