well im new to the ps2 world but not to electronics.
i bought a new ps2 from a retail store. with the new date code on it, its a slim v12 btw
i ordered the chip from modchip.com it came with the neofix xiii and wiring. i used a new soldering iron 15W and new low temp solder as well as flux.
i did take pics before and after the install too
nothing crimped on re-asembly and all connections were good
on first turn on it booted a store bought game fine, as normal
then switched to backed up of the same game and got the rsod stating incorrect disc type
so i researched yet again and found i needed to DL and burn a cd-r with the elf file etc. well i dunno much about it but i did that. and upon loading it just went to the basic ps2 screen like if theres no disc. and from then on would not do anything other then bring up that screen,
i figured out that the disc was no longer spinning at all.
so on that note i disassembled the ps2 again and checked all wires.
and read more into the sensitivity of each wire.
re-ruted a few wires and re-heated the connections.
put it back again and tried only to find i only got a black screen. no nothing.
dis-asembled again and found th O wire crimped under a bottom plate screw. removed and replaced that wire and put it together again.
now it again brings up the basic ps2 screen for the memory card and the setup but the disc still wont read, if you hit X it says reading disc for two flashed then stops. and if i hit reset a few times once in a while it will flash reading disc 8-10 times then it says cannot read...
it still will not do anything but bring up the ps2 screen ever since the very first turn on where it loaded the game Juiced. and all i did was flip the top swap discs to the copy and close it then hit reset.

so whats the deal experts???

i can see the laser working when i run it without the top. and Somtimes the disc spins.
so whats at fualt here?
what was the original problem making it not run?
whats the actual problem now?
and what do i need to do to fix it?

im copying this whole post and posting on dms forum, afterdawn forums, and emailing it to modchip.com support.

Matt

ps.
ok i opened it up again and removed the neofix xiii and tested, then removed the modchip and still nothing, just says no data when on, but reads the memory card fine. is the laser and motor fried now?

ok well for some reason i am re-installing the dms4 se lite and the laser fix with new wires, and even better routing and attatching, as well as a larger power wire and a double large ground. i am also going from the diagram off the site i bought the chip from located here:
http://www.modchip.com/ps2/dms4v12.htm
the main difference is pic B of wire Q
as apossed to dms's pic B of wire C
they are two different wires, different side of the motherboard, but actually the same overall location.

i guess what im getting to is that even if my laser is toast i should be able to replace it and ill already have the chip installed.
so maybe ill find somone with parts to swap out to test it. or better yet somone who know about the dms4 se lite to swap a laser into it and set me up as i just wanna play ps2 and ps2 backups off DVD-R. nothing more, no speacial tricks needed each time i startup

ok everything checked, finished, very good conections, everything is isolated. everything installed, no extra parts... and everything is in optimal location, wires short and seperate, not overpassing unless seperated by elec tape. and the high spots are cover too.
testing as we speak

ok i get dsm4 disabled when holding square at boot but it still wont read any disc. (tried: ps2, ps2, DVD-R, cd-r boot, and audio cd.)
all it says is there is no data.

so what do i need to replace??? asap please

Hi

I got a trained professional to install my DMS4 Pro with Neofix Xiii into my slim ps two (SCPH-70004 CB) it's a version 12.

The thing is, he got the same problem as you are describing. Does anybody has a solution to this problem.

The computer start working again when he removed the DMS.

Thank you for your time.

well i havent solved it and mine did not start working again after removal, so i just cleaned all the points up and im taking it back, and will sell the dms4 s.e. lite chip and the neofix xii online, it is new and i have no reason to think its bad, including some of the solder and some new wire for it and i can also sell my 15w soldering iron with it too, all of which are new, all you need it flux. i have plenty of pics of it and my install, so anyone want it?

Hi amcline. This is a big prob with plp just starting out. How did you burn the elf file? You can't just "click and drag" or burn these as a data file. They have to be burnt as an image.

I'm not trying to say that you don't know how to burn, you just didn't mention how you made the cdr. Just trying to help.

I burned the cd just like I burn any other bin or cue, in Nero as a bin or cue.

The thing is, I dont know how the guy that did the modding tested it.
He just said that the cd would not spin at all after the modding.

Are you saying that it will not spin at all if you put any other cd than the boot CD?

Thanks for the reply.

Hey, ok... I'll pass, but maybe someone else will grab it. For another $2 all that can be bought new (guaranteed). I have come across 2 bad dms4 lite's in 45 installs. I do like the new s.e.'s though. They're alot smaller than the regular lites.

What are you going to do for a modded ps2 now? If you don't mind me asking?

if you want to mod your playstation 2, then let me suggest you sending the chip, and the fix to team modders. If you provide everything (chip, laser fix, etc.) it will only cost you 35 dollars. if you are fond of playing online, then get the matrix infinity, or you can still use the dms4, just remember that when you are burning the discs, they have to be patched. this is the team moddrs website. They are very highly rated, and have great feed back. check out there install pics while you are there.

this is the link to a picture of a v12 ps2 with a dms4 lite and a subzero fix:

they really do great work
