I am burning 1 for 1 backups of all my Start Trek Deep Space 9 DVDs. I am using DL DVD+R media from Memorex & RiData. I am seeing 2 different problems on some burns. Keep in mind that some copies come out fine with zero glitches. When I do encounter a problem it will be one of the following :
1.) One problem I see from time to time is this : You insert the copy to the home theater DVD player (have used a Pioneer and Sony player) and the disk spins up, but then goes back to the ?screen saver? for that DVD player. If I hit the play button, it will play the episodes, but to get to the 2nd & 3rd episode, I have to skip through the individual chapters to get to the 2nd & 3rd episode. When I want to watch the 4th episode, I skip through the chapters, but when I get to the 4th episode, the player goes back to the screen saver. It will NOT play the last episode on the disk. The computer DVD burner will not play it also through normal means. I have to view the disk in windows explorer and double click the actual .VOB file, then it plays.
2.) The other problem I see is always on the 4th episodes (& sometimes the 3rd too). The problem is the video will suddenly freeze and may or may not stumble forward slowly and blocky and the audio makes a strange high pitched stuttering sound. I have to back up to the point at which it starts and hit play. Then it goes fine, but this happens several times in the last episode, and sometimes in the 3rd.
I am using DVDFab Decrypter (sometimes I may use DVD Decrypter) and DVD Shrink (I have Nero 6 Ultra, but I do not use it directly for the burning onto the DL media).
Any Ideas why this happens? Could it simply be some settings in the applications I am using? I think I just use the default settings for the 8.5Gb DL disks. Could it be the media itself? I am using the Memorex & Ridata b/c they are $2/disk (when you get the 25 spindle) from Tiger Direct (they are local for me too).
Thanks in advance for any help!!
Robert
