DVD-r and DVD+r are both formats of the writable dvd format(as well as dvd-rw and dvd+rw) these formats are backed by very large companies pioneer for example has taken up dvd-r's whereas hp has taken up dvd+r's both hold the same ammount of data and are mostly compatible withe standalone dvd players, dvd-r is the older of the two and as such is slightly less expensive and has burners that can burn slightly faster(but that is subject to change in the next few months) also, dvd-r is slightly less compatible with standalones. dvd+r is slightly more expensive, and currently burns slower but has more compatability with dvd players, either format works and it is just all a matter of preference. personally, I would choose the multiformat dvd burner from sony. If I read correctly you said that you had already purchased a dvd burner, what fomat +-r is it?

This is an amazingly imformative site with many places to find information and help. Please support it.

I bought the external SONY DRX500UL DVD +R, DVD -R which is burn fast at 4x . I think this is a good burner but right now I did not burn yet because I waiting for the USB 2.0 PCI CARD ADAPTER. My computer only have USB 1 so I just order from ebay the USB 2.0 PCI CARD ADAPTER. Also DVD +R, DVD -R is a same thing righ, just DVD -R is less expensive and less compataible to any dvd player and DVD +R is more compataible but more expensive.
