Hey guys, i am using a V9 PS2 w/ Messiah 2 modchip, hdloader and a 120gb Maxtor HDD, i pulled the drive from my ps2 today and plugged it into my gf's pc, attempting to pull a game image off the hdd to the pc, as an experiment to see if it was possible to extract images from the drive.

Sadly upon putting the drive back in the PS2 and loading HDloader, i was prompted to format the HDD being told it was not recognisable, i for one do not want to go through the trouble of reinstalling the 100gb of games i had on there and i am hoping there is a way to not have to do this. Does anyone know what i may do to avoid having to reinstall everything? :(

a windows based operating system will not recognize the drive and you'd have to use a GUI to access it such as WinHIIP. it sounds as if you tried to get into the drive without knowing what you were doing and screwed up the format or the master boot record, in this case your most likely going to have to reformat and start again, this time how about reading up on what your doing first and then you can use WinHIIP to do all the transferring to and from (yes you can pull the games off the HDD) the drive via your PC at a much faster rate then you can in the PS2.

try using WinHIIP on your PC to access the drive, you may be able to save whats on it, i know you can format to a toxic OS and save all information on the drive but with you not having a DMS chip this wont be of any use to you.

Thanks for the helpful, if not slightly patronising reply! :P

Usually i have been moving the HDD back & forth between and do not normally have problems (I never pulled games back off, though) the main reason i posted was because winhiip 1.7 was seeing the drive and saying it did not have a PS2 master boot record etc.. so i tried a couple things (initialising it in xp admin tools) which may have f00ked it, i don't know, main thing is i learnt from this, and re-ripped GT4 last night so all is peachy!

And i finally got rid of auto modelista.... :D

thats WinHIIP 1.7.5 you got there right? it not you should get the latest version which is 1.7.5

yeah it was slightly smartassed of a response but not in such a way as to be rude and at the same time (if not more-so) it was helpful with suggestions.

the only reason i can think you may have had a problem was if you had the drive configured wrong on the cable. an example is the PS2 drive has to be master when in the PS2, you may have had another drive on the same IDE cable that was also set to master or single drive which may have caused a problem. anywho you got it back up and going i take it and alls well.

to pull the games off the PS2 drive use the WinHIIP 'Extract Image(s)' button and then select the game(s) with a check in the box next to their title, then click start and it will pull them off into ISO format.

good day

and just in case you don't know or don't have it, DVD Decrypter is the best way to rip the ISO from DVD based game disks to your PC harddrive for transfer to the PS2 HDD.

Thanks, yeah i do use DVD Decrypter.

The HDD from the ps2 was left set on master and took the place of my dvd-writer when i tried it, winhiip found it, but couldn't read it, i'm thinking of reinvesting in an external hdd caddy, a lot less fuss and can be useful for othe rpurposes too. But thanks for your help :)
