What is the best DVD writer to buy for backing up video DVDs and what is the best media to uses?

Used to have NEC writer but it broke after 6 months. And used orange bulkpaq 8x media but half them did work on my Sony DVD player.

Can anyone please help me I have been pulling my hair out.

if it comes to media you will see Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim given the thumbs up over here. infact i've ordered Taiyo Yuden after hearing from this great forum with people say its THE BEST.

those are few which i trust. newegg doesn't have -r on stock right now.
