I suppose this could be just another conspiracy theory...BUT..is it possible that in order to highlight the difference between current recieved picture quality and the new HDTV transmissions, SKY has reduced the bit rate on the current normal pictures.
I recently recorded (on DVD) as a test, SKY News, the live presentation. When I discovered pixelation on replay I checked the live pictures, they had the same amount of what I would call compression/processing artifacts. I'd also done the same kind of test some months ago,again on DVD (using the same batch of DVD blanks) and when these were checked they had almost none of these problems!?.
A very learned friend checked out the recieved signal strength (using a professional meter) and the state of any components in the reciever chain, tuner etc, that would influence in any way the percieved picture quality and foung nothing out of 'kilter'. Both tests were done under exactly the same weather conditions.
What troubles me is, if this is the case will this now be the 'Normal', sic, picture quality ad infinitum.

Any comments?
