Canon MV830i not recognized

When I attach my Canon to my computer using XPpro the new hardware icon pops up, so it does recognize the camcorder to that point, but even when I got to My Computer and click on the Canon drive, the software does not open. When I try to open Camera Window, I get the message, "cannot detect camera"... Any help would be appreciated.
