Hi, was wondering if any of you could help?
I'm a beginner to burning VCD's and I have just downloaded a few XVID AVI movies from Kazaa, they are all excellent quality so now all I want to do is burn them to disc using Nero, I hear I have to convert them to MPG1 or something like that using something called TMPGenc? So basically I loaded in the movie I was trying to convert and clicked begin, is it as simple as that? Also it said it would take at least 5/6 hours before it completed encoding? An email with any help what so ever would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone.

In TMPGEnc, click file - project wizard and select a VCD compilation!! Use NTSC if you live in North America or Japan and PAL for Europe or Austrailia!

Hi

I was also intrested in this converting divx to svcd using tmpgenc..

using the wizard i have selected PAL (1)
(2) I select the video file ( file name.avi )
it automacticlay names an audio file
on (3) I have not a clue what to do
(4) bitrate etc ( 352x288 25fps 44100 stero 265 mins 11 sec
(5) select outputname mpeg file name.mpg

it then starts to encode ( which is good )
but the time it say takes about 80:26:01, so this to me means 80 hours is that right or have I read it wrong?

I did stop it after 1 hour and played the clip
the picture was there but no sound!!!

any help or ideas

Well, first we will fix the sound!!

Open the avi in virtualdub

1. click video - direct stream copy
2. click audio - full processing mode
3. click audio again and click compression, click no compression pcm and click ok
4. click file - save avi

the avi saved should work better with TMPGEnc!

Now before you click the start button in TMPGEnc, click setting and click the advanced tab and select source range! then double click source range and a new little box will open. Click "move to start frame" and click "set start frame" click "move to end frame" and click "set end frame". Then click OK! Now when you start the encoding there is a good chance that will knock off some hours!

NOTE: TMPGEnc will take a long time on MPEG-2 encoding!
