please show me how to find out what typr of dvd writer i have. I am wanting to see if it is neccessary to bookmark to cut down on errors, but not sure how to tell what type of burner i have.

Do you have DVD Decrypter? If so go to tools, drive, capabilities. It will list the drive and firmware version. When you say bookmark, I assume you are talking about booktyping. Booktyping is only possible when using the +R flavored discs.
