well basicaly what happend was this morning i turned on the comp...5 mins later it switches off, no mater what i did it turned straight off, safe mode, safe mode wiht comand prompt everything.
i assumed a registry component was currupt, anyway i decided to reistall xp and its running ok now but a will a simple reinstall fix this?
i think its best i just format and ill do that next week al i need is for some one to explain why this happend.
i have 1 idea however,i acidently instaled 2 operating systems on the 1 pc ,i think this is what has messed me up.
thanks for any replies on this, have to find the answer...
sounds like a heating problem, open your computer and see if the processor fan is still connected and working. if it is check in your bios for your power saving options.
when it first happend i was not so sure if it was over heating...checked in bios and saw that the cpu temp was 22 c, system temp 19 c, cpu fan 4818 rpm and chasis fan 0 rpm.
this is my little bros pc and hes been keeping it very malware clean as ive seen, anyway i brang it to my house, i left it untouched for 1 and a half days and it seems to be running fine,so it probaly was overheating..
what are your veiws on the situation rundata,if it was a overheated cpu is that the way to go and should it be stable now?
btw i forgot to add after the reinstall of the os it happend aggain later that day, so it must be a over heating issue.
having multiple operating systems should not have any effect on how your computer runs.
im guessing that you only checked the temperature of your processor in the bios when you first booted the computer and not when it restarted as 22 degrees is nearly impossibly cold for CPU with a standard cooler.
if it is a heat problem then the only way to fix it is with a better cooler. but i dont think that is the case here.
leave your computer as it is for now and post the temperature of the cpu when the system reboots itself. generally if its under 50 degrees celcius then heat isnt going to be the issue.
apart from heat the only problem would be hard drive failure or possibly power supply failure
you can find out if its your hard drive by getting some diagnostic utilitys from the manufacturers website.
