I have a Pentium M 1.60 GHz laptop computer and don't know which one of the seven options is best. So far I have left it at Default...

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

concerning idct settings experimenting is usually reccomended!

the default is what I've come to use (just lazziness) but the 32simplemmx (xvid) is said to be quite fast and precise!

just but don't hesitate to try them out and decide what gives you the best speed!

So it's basically a speed thing?

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

this is the main use of the settings the precision of the decode is what's @ stake but I have yet to have read any complaints related to experimenting w/ them!

it breaks down the source w/ different access points so to speak but the result is largely minuscule especially to the human eye!

the noticable result is speed depending on how well your system handles each setting

you can dl pc wizard 2005 or similar app to identify your processors capabilities but the unsupported processes will be noticably slower!

imho speed is the main issue you're dealing with

i wasnt able to see differences when using 64bit idtc

in case you're interested in the speed difference i have tested all idct's: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=55813

Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2

That is part of the specs I picked off a Pentium M listing. As the category states, those are the multimedia capabilities built into the processor. Some newer systems use SSE3, and 3DNow!Professional. So, set the IDCT settings according to the multimedia specs of your processor, that or leave it at default. I'd suggest the 32 Bit SSE2/MMX setting. That's what I have my system set to as my processor has the same Multimedia Instruction specs.

Of interest from the UncasMS post was:

according to rockas the default settings is:

Quote:
... the default value is SSE/MMX not SSE2/MMX... anyway...
SSE2/MMX is compatible with Pentium IV and AMD64...
SSE/MMX is compatible with those two plus Pentium III and Amd ATHLON.

jdobbs on: 32 bit ssemmx idct (skal):

Quote:
The two SSE/MMX versions are just different algorithms that use the same precision levels, one was designed by SKAL.

take care with rebuilder pro 1.06 and idct

due to changing from dgdecode 1.1 to 1.45 there appeared little flaws with the addressed idcts

3,4 and 5 should not be used atm

What little flaws are you referring to?

No. It will work correctly and you will use the correct iDCT algorithm. The ones affected are also the ones rarely used because they are so slow.

I'm still trying to figure out why they were changed at all...

This is truly much ado about nothing. -jdobbs-
All one normally will see is some speed variation, nothing to fear, or at least that's the impression of the author. I suspect we'll see an update shortly. I ran some batch encodes and the videos came out good and I was set to 32 bit SSE2.
