Hi, I am new here, so please be gentle with me if I have posted
to the wrong forum !
I have a collection of small, funny MPG files that I'd like to
somehow get onto one DVD with a menu to chose between them as
desired.
Have only been aboe to find tools that convert 1 MPG at a time
to an entire DVD.
Someplace I read that either Apollo DVD Creator or Vegas Movie
Studio + DVD will do this but I would rather ask folks that
know more than myself before doing any more experiments...
MPEG format - no idea, don't even know how to find out, they are
just small mpg files.
DVD tools - Nero, TMPGEnc, and a few other things - nothing special
though, and if I need to get one more, I will.
(I have a CD of something like Pinnacle Studio I have never used
that came with a firewire card or something...)
Encoders ? Meaning codecs ? I have tried a couple of pacs and I
ended up getting the best results with WM9 codecs.
Sorry I don't know enough to be more helpful - I am at work and
answering from memory - and that I don't know much is why I came
here to ask in the first place !!

think your missing the point.You need to have your mpeg files in an mpeg2 compatable format before you burn them to disc and then be able to play them in a standalone dvd player.
Can you download avicodec, run one of your files through it and post the results(copy and paste the properties into your next post)

Not meaning to be sassy - and perhaps I am misunderstanding here,
but I have at least one program that takes ONE of these MPG files
and will happily make it into a whole DVD for me - it also has a
mode that will take the lot of my small files and mush them all
together (badly) into one long series on a single DVD.
What I am asking is NOT how to become an expert, I would simply
like to know what program, with drag and drop ease, will allow
me to drop in my files, menu them, maybe make cutesy little pics
in the menu, then either output what is needed into video_ts for
me; or actually also burn it onto dvd.
I really don't want to get into the guts of things when there are
for sure programs that do these things without a long time on the
learning curve - as I have read that Vegas or Apollo DVD Creator
are supposed to do - is this an unreasonable thing to want ?
When I started backing up my DVDs it was a big deal - it took a
batch of programs and a long time to do....now I open Apollo DVD
Copy, and maybe AnyDVD, click a few times, and in 30 minutes or
less it is all done to my satisfaction and only fails if there
are media errors.
Aside of all that, I cannot comply with the need for more info
until I get home, much later - but I will have a look as long
as I don't fall asleep first !!
very easy to use its basically point the program to where your files are, you can do them separately or batch them together, make sure you put a different output folder and click convert.
Once converted you will be able to utilise the 2nd piece of software, TMPGEnc dvd author.There are tutorials for this in both basic and advanced forms if you take a wander through the guides tab at the top of the page
