I think I've tried almost every single guide on this website trying to get the best quality movie CD with subtitles. I've also studied several threads on the forums. I'm at my wits end.

I spent 24 hours converting a movie using this guide:
http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/dvd2svcd_guide.cfm

When I burned the bin/cue files for the first SVCD (I use Nero) and stuck it in my player, all I got was ERROR.

So I tried this guide:
http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/dvd2svcd_with_tmpgenc.cfm
I also ripped the subtitles using this guide:
http://www.afterdawn.com/articles/archive/rip_subtitles_with_subrip.cfm

The mpg file got burned on the CD, but not the subtitles. And the SVCD plays fine on my player.

I can do a VCD with subtitles just fine. But I'd like to try an SVCD since the quality is suppose to be so much better. Any suggestions?

DVD2SVCD with CCE SP. The bin/cue file you attempted to burn with nero, may have been better off burned with Alcohol 120% or another program that specialises mostly with image files!

Burning the bin/cue files with Alcohol 120% worked. I was going to try CCE SP but it says it will stick a logo on the video (unless I want to spend $2000 for the program). Why would anyone spend that much for this program? Is it really that good?

jshumko,
Use VCDEasy or BurnAtOnce to burn your bin& cue files for SVCD format. Stay away form Nero! Alcohol will get the job done too!

VCDEasy:http://www.vcdeasy.org/
BurnAtOnce:http://www.burnatonce.com/index.html

Dela,
I've backed up countless SVCD's in bin& cue format using VCDEasy and my backups play like a charm! If one encounters problems in the burn process, go to settings>CDRDAO>change force driver to generic-mmc.

Well I had to disable burnproof on my secondary pc and use generic-mmc-raw driver. I admit getting the CDRDAO settings can be a pain in the arse, but once configured properly, program runs very smooth.
