hi, you can get them from www.svp.co.uk, excellent site, and the standard shipping charge is £4.99. steep but this can easily be absorbed by buying more stuff as that £4.99 allows up to 10kg to be shipped.

i would personally recommend 'Verbatim TY', these discs are awesome -
Quote:
{DV 3309} Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden) 8x DVD-R in Spindle Tubs of 25
Verbatim have entrusted the manufacture of the disc to the world renowned Taiyo Yuden factory.

mid code : TYG02

SVP Price: £6.49 / Euro 9.55 inc VAT.
Equivalent Retail Price Per Disc: 26.0p
- prices are still pretty similar to this, i tend to copy/paste this bit from the same post

no worries; they do 'normal' Taiyo Yuden in dash and plus formats but they're a lot more expensive than the Verbatim Taiyo Yuden

those are the ones, very high quality (silver matte finish) genuine Taiyo Yuden discs, they have the authentic 'GG' or whatever Taiyo Yuden codes.

I strongly disagree with the statement 'the quality is really bad'

so what you're saying is that you don't like the look of them. have you tried burning with them ?

I bought some Verbatim from the svp site, have burned a couple of copies seems ok, a few weeks ago i bought a 50 pack from pc world in exact same case and packaging and discs look the same, the only difference i could see was the the 50 pack was made in India and the ones from svp are made in Japan. Does this make any difference to the performance of discs?

@ahmadjan3 -

i take it that's a game you're talking about, i'm assuming it's a PS2 game...and no the discs themselves are a high quality silver matte finish, not blue.

@badger38 -

i've used absolutey loads (ie many 100s) of the Indian Verbatims without issue, i believe Indian Verbatim are basically older stock as current Verbatim are made in Taiwan as far as i'm aware (i've used many many 100s of these also, and quite a few from Singapore also).

The Verbatim Taiyo Yuden are made in Japan, ie Taiyo Yuden and these are really high quality. The non-TY Verbatim are very good discs indeed.

in all with the various types of Verbatim i've burned 2000 more like 3000 of them, mostly without issue

they must have made a genuine mistake, they are a very reputable site. everyone makes mistakes. svp even sent me someone's items by mistake one day and i sent them back.

check your invoice and see if it matches up with what you received. i've had 1000s of discs off them without issue as have many ppl.

Are you both talking about the same side of the disk? Blue would be the burning side..but wouldn`t silver matte be the topside??

Just a thought.

Hows life on the ocean waves? In my little"hamlet" decent media has not yet found it`s way into the vocabulary.

I did get a batch of TY`s sent in from the USA one time,but it put a serious hole in my cheque account. I have managed to now "step up" a notch or two and am using Ritek GO5`s but not long enough to test their durability.

@ ahmadjan3

Put the disc in Nero or similar Disc info program and tell us what manufacturer and type it is.

I use svp all the time and these Verbatim (taiyo Yuden) are excellent discs.

over 600 burns no skipping or coaster's.

@ahmadjan3

Nothing wrong with SVP mate...
As for that game, i would make sure you have done all the right steps to produce a quality backup.
Also, sometimes the quality of the media is irrelevant if the system isn't setup for that kind of jobs.
Just a though.

@Creaky

Hi mate, I finaly got them... Well, sort of... They did take a bit to send me my gear, i got my Verb TY's today but it's still in the post... No one was in and i can only pick them up friday afternoon. :(

But one thing is for sure, very soon i'll be ordering some more!

@ahmadjan3, might be an idea to buy a back-up off someone to try it out then you will know either way if its your ps2 or burning process.

Yes, the game may be required to be re-built. Personally, I burn at 1x with my Verbatim DVDs.

hi

i have just made a backup of Prince of Persia the two thrones.
the burning speed was 4 using verbatim TYG02 media. and the software was DVD Decrypter. and it dose not work. it freezes at the loading screen when i start the game. i have also scanned the DVD with DVDinfo and got this result the first part of the DVD is missed up. u can see the rest is ok the first part of it is not burned properly i dont know why
and also i am using LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S with frameware YS0F. whenever i start to burn a DVD for first 30 second the DVD does not spin. when i click on burn it spins for 3 sec then stops and starts after 25-27 secs that causes the problem
here is the graph

can any one tell me how to fix this please
please tell me what am i doing wrong
thank you

I couldn't even find a YSOF firmware for your drive

look here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2141

And as creaky and many others have pointed out to you, SVP are a very good company.. I have had many discs and stuff from them too, only had one problem with them and that was a delivery problem. I use those same verbatim discs with TYG02 media code and have never had any problems.

I suggest you try updating your firmware and then see how you get on. Try them with a movie rather than a game at first... did you downlaod that game by any chance? if so, try it with an original game first.
