Motorola V3 - P2K Tools problems

I'm new to all this phone hacking lark so please excuse me if these are dumb questions.

I have a new V3 and have installed the motorola PC sync software and it works fine.

I want to create custom themes and have a copy of motoskin to create them. However i should be using P2K tools to stick them on the phone. However P2K is always stating disconnected even when the motorola software works fine. Any ideas?

Lastly. How do i unblock my phone for all networks? I did my old Nokia with a tap in code. Do Motorolas work similarly? How can i get a code if so?
