I just got my Swapmagic and fliptop a few hours ago. I'm having problems getting the backups to work. Every single DVD I try I get the "Not a valid PS2 disc". I've tried 5 different burned games. I burned these with Alcohol 120% at 4x, and a few also with DVD Decrypter at 2.4x.
My DVD media is Memorex DVD+R.

Anyone have any idea why? I'm guessing it's because of my Memorex DVD+R media? Does the PS2 not like all DVD+R media at all or just my Memorex ones? Any ACTUALLY have success with Memorex with their PS2?

Can someone link me to some high quality DVDR media that they know for sure is compatible with PS2?

Thanks a lot.

ME, i have great success on Memorex. you got the idea right, but your problem is you're using dvd+r's. go and buy dvd-r's. +'s suck. so do RW's. all of my games are used on dvd-r's CMC MAG. i know people say they arent good, but they work.

All right. So my problem is because of compatibility between my PS2 and my Memorex +R media?

I had actually read that FAQ you linked to but for some reason, I didn't think too much about it. Heh.
I apologize for this post which is obviously not in the correct forum. I also had read through the first 5 or so pages of this particular sub-forum, too.

I'll probably pick up some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R. Unless someone else thinks differently? I'll wait for some more input before I order them tonight.

Thanks alot for the info.

YES! GO BUY TAIYO YUDENS! they are good! i dont buy em, cuz i cant buy anything off the internet..no credit card, not yet anyway.

those are the best!

From tokijin's faq's

2. Q. Does the type of media I use matter?
A. YES: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/240341
If you're too lazy to read, use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Sony, TDK, Maxell, Sony or Phillips DVD-R's. Avoid Memorex, Staples, Imation, Dynex, Princo, Bulqpaq, etc.
CMC Magnetics is garbage. Need proof (Thanks to Alkohol):

If you really want to do the PS2 backup thing right, pick up some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's. I only burn to TYG02, the 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's. So far I've never had a lag, skip, freeze, or boot failure since I switched to Taiyo Yuden's. With results like that, why would I use anything else?

Going to make my order now. thanks :)

If I were you I wouldn't feel safe with buying Media from online man. Just go to the nearest Best Buy and buy the Verbatim because they get a whole lot of respect on this site. But I have Maxell DVD+R and I think I really should have just waited to get the Verbatim DVD-R media or either got the Maxell DVD-R kind

Ordering online is safe as long as you have a firewall, some private data protection, and you order off a secure server, which any reputable site will have. If your looking for a good site order some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's, try http://www.supermediastore.com I and several members have ordered from there and had good success. It is a reputable site.

High quality to backup PS2 games? If your PS2 console can handle reputable DVD+R media and if your burner is capable of "book typing" them into DVD-ROM, then get DVD+R. If your PS2 console can handle reputable DVD-R better, then get DVD-R. It doesn't matter, as long as they're high quality, then it's all good.

My top 3 choices of top notch media are:

<> Taiyo Yuden
<> Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus"
<> Maxell (mij by Hitachi)

Don't burn too slow (1X), or don't burn too fast (12X), keep it safe at 4X (yes... that's the best and most recommended speed for PS2 games burning).

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Oh hey, now that you mentioned about booktyping.. I was reading around here and someone said that only Nu Tech supported booktyping. I did some further googling and found out that my NEC supports it too. I opened up DVD Decrypter and went to the booktyping menu found the NEC Drive section and chose "Change for: DVD+R Media". and I choose the New Setting as "DVD-ROM". But when I confirm the action by clicking "Change". I get a little error box that says "Failed!".

Any idea why it did? I thought this could be a temporarily solution until I get my TYs in.

Oh yes, and I used DVD+R Memorex media.
