Hi, I have recently ripped Windtalkers and Black Hawk Down each to a 4.7GB WhiteLabel DVD-R.

Both films play brilliantly but towards the end of the film they start breaking up and freezing. They are both over 2 hours long.

Anybody know why they do this??

I am using Smart-Ripper, DVD2One and then Nero to burn on a Toshiba SD5002.

I had the same problem!!! What i did was; decrypted to the hard drive and ran dvd2one to make it fit on one dvd. I than ran it on IFOedit. Burned and I have not had a problem yet. Also, there is a new update for dvd2one, it is version 1.1.1 I have used that with no problems. Hope this fixes your problems. By the way one of them that i did was Windtalkers.

DVD2ONE uses a constant compression rate, so I would be surprised if it was the software, but possibly your media. Try using the feature that allows you to customise the size of the DVD-R and reduce it by 100MB or so.

Thanks guys. I have ordered some Verbatim discs to see if they help.

I do have one last question though for dipstick, what exactly do you use IFOedit for? I have it and can't really tell what I should or shouldn't remove especially after putting it through DVD2One!

I have since tried playing these discs on my PC and they play fine, does that tell me anything? Is it the media or my standalone DVD player? Tried playing it on my Toshiba SD-125e and my PS2 and they both mess up in the same place. Any ideas?

You will not need IFOedit if you use DVD2ONE (IFOEDIT edits IFOs, just in case you wanted a silly answer!!)

It could be the standalone, use the compatibility list in the Articles section to find if yours is OK. PCS are usually more forgiving, so possibly you just haven't burned the DVD-R correctly.

I have burnt quite a few movies before these 2. Have done Fight Club, Bad Company, Snatch, Lock Stock and a few others and they are all fine, it is just that these movies are particularly long.

Couldn't find the articles section, any chance of link pls?

Thanks for your help on this, you guys have been great, although I haven't found my answer yet ;)

Thanks,

Dave

As dvd2one compresses a movie >4.7gb down to 4.36gb, it means it shall use THE WHOLE disc, alot of players are picky when it comes to reading the extremeties of a dvd and the only way I have solved it, is using better media (ritek).

Please note: this worked for me, and may not work for you, you may have to do some trial and error on a variety of dvd's

P.S - I have done windtalkers/black hawk down onto some cheap datawrite (yellow) dvdr's these worked fine, they were also done on some cheapo choice media which suffered from freezing/blockiness as you described.

The result was the media in my case.
check out www.blankdiscshop.co.uk, this is where I get my media from.

Also what loaded stated, reduce the disc by 100Mb or so, may cure the problem, by not filling up the disc.

Also I have done Titanic, Green mile with no probs using the ritek disc
Hope this helps
