I want to split an mpg movie that is over 700MB into smaller sizes as to fit onto a 700MB disc(s). I know that there are many products out there that will accomplish this task, but what I'm looking for specifically is a utility or program that allows me to split the file without having to go through an encoding process.

Is there any kind of "splitter" "splicer" "dicer" program out there?

I know I could use 800MB CDR's but I haven't had luck with them too much. My DVD player doesn't seem to like them!

MPEG-1 or -2? (VCD/SVCD?) You are aware that you must create a(n) (S)VCD compliant CD for your DVD player to be ab le to play it?
TMPGEnc should be able to do the job. Latest version (at least) will do a de- and re-mux of sound, but it won't re-encode anything.
If it's an MPEG-1 less than 740 MB in size it should fit to a 74 min CD-R when transformed to a VCD compliant disk

TMPGEnc splits MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files nicely.

And yes, if your clip is in VCD-compliant MPEG-1 format, it should fit on one CD when burnt using VCD format (look at our articles page for instructions how to burn VCD/SVCD using Nero).

just so you know, I have no problems getting movies to play on my dvd player. It's just the file size issue as far as getting them burned onto a 700MB disc when the file size is bigger for the movie.

Thank you all for the advice, I welcome any more comments (of course!). I'll give NERO a shot! I'll let you know how it works out....
