I'm looking to find out some info on some Benq blanks that are on sale up here in Canada (at FutureShlop for $16.99):
They are listed as "BenQ 50-Pack 4.7GB 16X DVD+R", manufacturer part# "98.A1566.PQ2". Some other info that may be relevant: "Recording Surface Colour = Platinum" and "Top Surface = Silver/White". I'm hoping to use some gift certificates up on a good buy. Does anyone know who made these or where?

Are Benq blanks generally a good buy? I couldn't find much info on them, other than the Benq drives themselves, which I happen to have... a DW1640, so I'm thinking compatability would be a little bit better for me?

Thanx!

hi Marty, welcome to AD~

anyways, i haven't tried any of those Benq 16x rated ones yet, are YOURS made in Malaysia too?

this is all i could find out about them:

BenQ DVD+R 4.7GB DAXON...AZ3 16x (they have the DAXON coding, which in the past, have NOT been very good..but i don't know about now and i'm not going to "jump to conclusions" before i actually try it out myself or a close/trusted friend tries it first...i'm not going to slam a media before trying it, i'm unbiased here) :)

despite what manufacturers claim, just because a company sells both drives AND media, it DOES NOT ensure better compatibility...that's just a marketing thing...to SELL MORE which in turn = MORE $$ for that company~ :)

i too have a Benq 1640, it's a TERRIFIC drive, but, until i test these for myself or i hear from a RELIABLE source that these are either "good" or "bad"...i will not pass judgement on them just yet...

i don't know how good they will work for you, a few "brands" i WILL recommend though on your Benq drive is Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim~ :)
i have had ZERO problems with either Taiyo Yuden media or Verbatim media on my benq drive...others may offer you MORE choices, but those 2 i HAVE TESTED AND TRIED on my own setup with great results.

p.s. ALL my DVD+R media are booktyped to dvd-rom, that benq you got there IS BOOKTYPE capable using Qsuite/Benq booktypemanagement utility~ :)

good luck

perhaps more people that HAVE used those 16x DVD+R Benq media will give you more advice...i'm just telling you THE FACTS, no assumptions.

docTY~

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups
