I have read through a couple of the forums but a clear and definitive answer is not given on how to copy a FULL UNCOMPRESSED DVD store bought DVD to a DVD +R DL disc. I have used the latest software and updates of anydvd, clone dvd2, and imgburn, but none of these progs. work completely. Yes, I now know how to create and burn a iso to a DL disc, but what I really want is a full DL disc REPLICA meaning all menus, audio, and extras burned over, NOT just the movie like imgburn does. With clone dvd2 I can burn to the DL disc, but I get my dvd player freezing up when the player tries to transition to the second layer of my DL discs. I need and appreciate all help. I do understand how to create and burn iso's to a DL disc, since many users always reply back with saying create and burn the iso using imgburn.

ImgBurn does not distinguish between a full disc or just the movie by itself. It burns an ISO image, that is it. You will have to make an ISO image of the entire disc before you burn it. Try using Decrypter's ISO read then ImgBurn's ISO write. You will get an exact copy of the original even the DVD cover picture folder that some DVDs have and since all the content is copied, there is no need to re-establish a new layer break.

If all you want is a 1:1 copy (DVD+R DL) backup, then simply do as the following:

<> open up DVD Decrypter
<> put your original dvd movie inside burner or dvd-rom
<> Mode, ISO, Read
<> set your source <===== where the original is located
<> set your destination <===== to your hard drive
<> click on Decrypt (now sit tight and wait until it's completed)

Once it's successfully ripped the ISO into your hard drive

<> put your DVD+R DL into burner (I recommend Verbatim DVD+R DL)
<> Mode, ISO, Write
<> set your source <====== choose the MDS file from your hard drive
<> set your destination <====== to your burner
<> click on WRITE (now relax until it's successfully completed)

That's it.... easy as sippin' on some Hennessey.

First let me say thanx alkohol & wolfniggr for your replies. Let me please expand on my question as your help is much appreciated. I appreciate your further help as well as others. Thanx!!!

Regarding using DVD Decrypter for a 1:1 copy (DVD+R DL) backup, which version should I use of Decrypter that is the most stable and able to copy day after day including the new dvds to my DVD+R DL discs? I will say I'm very confused as some others on the net (claim) about using and reading up about DVD Decrypter being the old banned version that seemed to work well, and people saying to use the updated legal version of DVD Decrypter being DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.6 (12/28/2005) from DVDIdle. Also, others say that ImgBurn is even the newest version, but as stated and tested doesn't do a complete and full 1:1 copy (DVD+R DL) backup. So if you could please put in perspective and clear up the confusing web of opinions for me. If DVD Decrypter is still the best to use as mentioned could you please provide me with the latest revision number and direction as to where I may download it from another site? Will DVD Decrypter work for some time or will some of the newest released DVDs render that sofware unusuable as well?

Also regarding DVD Decrypter here is a question that is rattling my brain. Do I have to worry about any type of protetion on the DVDs I'm going to copy, copy protection based on unreadable sectors, and the other sneaky hidden tricks lurking within newer purchased DVDs, since I'm currently running AnyDVD 5.8.1.1 on my desktop in the background? Does AnyDVD help to facilitate in removing all those forms of protections in the background for other software as well like DVD Decrypter so I can seemlessly use DVD Decrypter? OR am I almost locked to only solely use Slysofts software like AnyDVD running in the background then have to use CLONEDVD2 to take advantage of the USE and REMOVE protection from the dvd media from AnyDVD 5.8.1.1?

Once again I appreciate your help, and look forward to reading and having it become more clear having the answers come back from the pros.
Thanx and much appreciated!!!

@digit

dvd decrypter version 3.5.4.0 is what I personally use for my DL burns...

this version has been removed from afterdawn as well as MANY other sites on the web, but can be found here:

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/

or more specifically, here :

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe

i have tried out a FEW burns using IMGBURN, same creator as DVD Decrypter, Lightning UK...but, i PERSONALLY do not feel it's any "better" than the 3.5.4.0 DVD Decrypter i linked you above...

there was a huge list of improvements included in the changelog for imgburn, but i pretty much got the SAME results using EITHER DVD Decrypter OR imgburn~ :)

also, mind you, imgburn is ONLY a burning app..to supposedly "take on where DVD Decrypter left off"...you can clearly see this as in the options only the "WRITE" is available, whereas in dvd decrypter; you can READ & WRITE the iso's...

lastly, since ur using AnyDVD in the background, you need not worry about the newer encryptions on these NEWER dvds...AnyDVD will take care of that on it's own...let AnyDVD deal with the encryptions and proceed as stated by the others using ISO READ---ISO WRITE using dvd decrypter~ :)

p.s. dvdfabdecrypter is NOT created by the same creator behind DVD Decrypter...

as for the burning portion of the program, IMGBURN was made by the creator of DVD Decrypter to pick up where DVD Decrypter left off...dvdfabdecrypter is a separate ripping program ALL TOGETHER by Fengtao Software, has NOTHING to do with Lightning UK's original DVD Decrypter and imgburn programs~

hope that clears things up for ya~

docTY~

oh, before i forget, you DO NOT have to use slysoft's clonedvd2 in order for AnyDVD to work, i really like the program myself; but it is NOT necessary if you choose to rip/burn with other programs you already have~

¨ Hey Alkohol,
¨ Check this out to backup any of the ARccOS, Puppet lock, RipGuard or whatever Discs? No need for AnyDVD, DVD43, VobBlanker or nothin?
¨
¨
¨
¨ open up DVD Decrypter
<> put your original dvd movie inside burner or dvd-rom
<> Mode, ISO, Read
<> set your source <===== where the original is located
<> set your destination <===== to your hard drive
<> click on Decrypt (now sit tight and wait until it's completed)

Once it's successfully ripped the ISO into your hard drive

¨ open DVDShrink
¨ <> goto File -> Open Disc Image and open the ISO file just ripped
¨ <> do the Shrink thing either Full Disc or Re-author, your choice
¨ <> hit Backup and tell Shrink to Burn with Decripter
¨ <> place a blank disc in your drive, set the burn speed and hit the burn button
¨
¨ When finished burning, remove the newly copied disc and you got it!

Let me know what you think?. If it works for you then I?ll tell you why it works?.. If it don?t work then I?ll keep my mouth closed LOL.

Looks like my buddy Doc. has sorted it all out for you already. However, I just want to add a few more info only.

<> DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 is both a ripper/decryper and burning program (free - it will read/rip/decrypt nearly 95% - 99% of new release movies still).

<> DVDFAB Decrypter is only a ripper/decrypter program (free - it will not write, however, it does updates regularly).

@2oldGeek

Yes, buddy... I know that DVD Decrypter is still the King of Ripper (for advanced users, regardless of what Mode). And yes, I've used the ISO Mode before and it's 95% succes and 5% failed. In addition, I've mostly used DVD Decrypter to rip via Mode, File F "simply because I want to blank out other sh!t from the movie using VobBlanker", but would like to have a full disc.

As you can see that most of my "mini guides" I've posted here or at the DVD Shrink forum for backing up RipGuard or ARccOS, I clearly stated that either to use DVD Decrypter via File Mode or DVDFAB Decrypter to rip (depends on what movies). Furthermore, you're probably noticed that all of my "mini guides" doesn't required the help from AnyDVD or DVD43. I know these 2 cracking engines are great, but seriously I haven't had any movies that I "must" needed to crack the encrypted bad sectors or cells with them (AnyDVD or DVD43).

The reason I hardly use ISO Mode is because (a) I primarily do all my transcoding/encoding with Nero Recode 2. (b) I believe Nero Recode 2 produced better quality in results. (c) DVD Shrink is a lil bit slow and it's quality is slightly behind Nero Recode 2 (in my opinion - this can be argue).

To answer your question, I may be wrong, but I'm guessing since DVD Decrypter only rip the ISO image (when using Mode, ISO, Read), whereas most of the encrypted fake/bad cells/sectors is/are not an ISO image? Therefore, it is likely to have a success ripping using the ISO.

I'm here to learn and help out, so please feel free to "educate" me anytime, alright. Cheers buddy.

Actually, when ripping in the ISO Mode it?s copying bit for bit, Byte for Byte and not examining the files for any missing sectors or whatever.. That way it don?t know that someone has removed the information that tells the copy software where the file is and how big it is, so forth?
We used to do this back in the early 80?s with 5 ¼ floppy discs.. It didn?t keep anyone from copying discs then and it doesn?t keep them from it today?. LOL

This thread is getting good.

I guess you're really a geek afterall, hehehe, LOL :) cheers buddy. I thought I knew everything in regards to DVD Decrypter. Could you post a screen shot or at least the settings you have in DVD Decrypter by chance? As you may have already noticed that I like freeware and will try anything to bypass ARccOS or RipGuard without AnyDVD or DVD43. So would you do that by chance?

Alcohol, to clear your thinking an ISO file just means it?s the whole dam thing without breaking it into smaller files that a player can read..
Therefore, you cannot rip an ISO file in the FAT32 file mode, it has to be NTFS because it?s looking at the whole disc, over 8GB, as one file.
I don?t know if you can open an ISO file in re-code but you probably can. Anyway that is why I like Shrink better. I feel that I have more control of the situation.. I feel like being able to set more AEC with Shrink I can get better quality ?Visually Enhanced? copies than with Re-Code?
Just My Humble Opinion IMHO???

@2oldGeek

You never answered my question about the settings inside DVD Decrypter?

Yeah, I know that DVD Decrypter doesn't support FAT32. By the way, both of my hard drives are NTFS.

Hmmmm... this is interesting indeed. I, on the other hand, feel that I have more control in Nero Recode 2 when ripping in File Mode via DVD Decrypter.

How would you compare Nero Recode 2 with "Advanced Analysis" and "High Quality Mode" to DVD Shrink's (Deep Analysis + AEC)? I personally, think that Recode 2 slightly produced a little better than DVD Shrink. However, that's just my perspective and this can be arguable.

:)Cheers buddy

Your getting I/O errors ? Bad disc?..
Also, don?t try to burn faster than 2.4x

Clean the disc with glass cleaner or alcohol, even if it don?t look dirty..
Check for scratches, maybe use some toothpaste to polish out. Clean again.
Try reading from another drive if you have one. That works sometimes.

Set up DVDDecrypter for an aggressive read Mode.
In DVDDecrypter go to: Tools -> Settings ->
Try these settings for

General Tab
Options ? Removal Method ? Aggressive

File Mode Tab
Options ? Remove PUOs (IFO and VOB)

ISO Read Mode Tab

CSS Tab
CSS Cracking Method
Brute Force -> I/O Key Exchange
On Failure ? Yes

I/O Tab

Hehehe... those are just exactly like mine settings (I have those settings within my backup guide "To Backup a DVD with DVD Decrypter, Nero Recode 2, Nero Burning Rom by Alkohol http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/256436 ", since the first day I installed DVD Decrypter.

Oh well, I thought you have yours set to some sort of a a little different, and I just want to know what's your trick only. Thanks anyways, buddy. :) :) cheers now.

Very true, I appreciate the warm welcome from the true day to day pros. As I have learned some of the other forums on other sites act as a online qvc trying to push products, rather than joining together as a digital force and complete projects with the real front line soldiers. Keep rocking and I have two more threads to post in the next couple of minutes to clear some further ?'s up. Thanx again!!!
