I have a 13 g. hd c:
160 g. hd part. d: 30 / G:130
200 g. hd part. E:100 / F:100

Well I had window xp pro on C: drive and xp media center on d: And e:,f: and G: as storage.

I started to have memory crashes and other problems. So I deceided to reinstall windows and reformat both c: and D: drive which had win. xp and xp media center.But this time having win. xp pro. on both c; and D: drives.

After formating and installing the windows. I rebooted and started it for the first time. And that's when it appeared three sets of windows. But only two work. The two new ones that i had freshly installed. The third os was xp media center which was on D: drive. When I select media center it doesn't boot it gives me a message Like this:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.

<windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll.

Please re-install a copy of the above file.

All I want to do is to remove xp media center so that there is only two selection on boot.

If anyone can help me please I don't want to format again.

right click on my computer and go to properties. click on the advanced tab and go to start up and recovery settings. click edit in the new window to open up the boot.ini

delete any reference to media center in there and save it

(if you just want to boot direct from the c: drive then just copy and paste this)

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

if you want to keep your OS choices menu just delete anything that looks like the bold text above but mentions media center.

i wouldnt attemp this unless you know what your doing as if you get it wrong you may not be able to boot back into windows
