Why do companies waste money on copy protection. I don't know how much money they pay people to come up with these protections, maybe someone on here does, but it just seems like such a waste of money. To me, it seems that they should just put the basic cheapest copy protections on DVD's, so they can continue to put on the DVD covers that they are copy protected and to keep regular joe schmos who don't know what they are doing from copying. Anything they come up with people like AnyDVD will break within a week, so people like the members of AD can continue their happy burning.

They could save a lot more money by just putting some cheapo protection that prevents you from popping in the dvd and copying it with Roxio, but anything beyond that seems pointless. Freakin' Sony comes up with new crap everyday, like Arccos and Puppetlock but it is all broken with a week. I don't know, maybe it doesn't cost much to make these protections, but it just seems like a waste of money.

People who want to burn the movie are going to burn it no matter how many retarded protections you put on it. So if I was them I would just put some basic crap to keep the people who think you can't burn DVD's still thinking that. That's my take.

EDIT: They know that their protections get broken within a week right?? They can't be oblivious to the fact that whatever they put out gets shot down. Or are they?

Ive always thought this but have no way of being sure. But they more complex the protection software becomes the more space it requires on the DVD disc. Which results in poorer quality.

The Sony DVD-R MIJ on sale this week at Staples do not code as TY, but rather Sony. Still gets good reviews on AD boards.
