I'm really sorry if these are stupid questions but I really know NOTHING about cell phones or service as I just got my first phone about a week ago and googling anything about cell phones is a nightmare..

The other night I found a brand new i860 on the street still in the box with all the little plastics still on the screen, but no paperwork or anything else inside. Since I'm currently only using a prepaid I would like to sign up for regular service but I definately DO NOT want to use Nextel, which is what it says on the back of the phone.

Long story long, I was just wondering if I can activate this phone through another provider, like Cingular which is what I would go for. Also, am I gonna get in to any kind of trouble trying to activate this phone? Would I be better off just selling it?

Any information would be much appreciated as I'm at a total loss.
