Hi All
I think I've made a boo-boo. Am I right in assuming that I cannot capture vhs format using a "hauppauge tv 150" card? I wanted to capture vhs tapes to convert to DVD.

What's the problem?
Get a composite cable (yellow) to go from the VCR to the PVR-150.
Get an audio adapter (red and white composite) to stereo mini for audio.
In your capture software, select composite as the video input, Line IN for the audio input, and record.

The other way, is to hook up the VCR's standard cable output to the PVR-150's cable input, and tune your capture software to channel 3 (or 4, whatever the VCR's output is set at).

Black holes are where God divided by zero...

Cheers Jim
My problem seems to be that I can capture video via my Hi8 camera, but i get nothing via the vcr. i know the vcr works. I find the setting up procedure rather confusing.

If you think of your PC as a TV, then set up your capture software on the same channel you would a TV, connected to the VCR (using a regular cable connection) it should work.
The capture card just gives you a secondary option, to use composite cables instead.
If you think of hooking up a DVD player to a TV, then you get the idea of how composite works. You have to tune the TV (the PC in this case) to use the composite input for video and audio).

THANKS FOR THAT JIM. I MANAGED TO GET IT WORKING VIA THE ARIEL LEAD AND PHONO SOCKETS. I THINK THE QUALITY WOULD BE BETTER VIA THE SCART,I'LL JUST HAVE TO KEEP ON TRYING.

What capture software do you recommend? least espensive but reliable. I run Media Center and don't want to mess with the setup. I have the PVR-150 and Panasonic VHS.
Thanks

Sorry to hijack this thread, are you using PVR-150 MCE or the just the PVR-150 card. I have Media Center as well and I'm trying to figure out if I need to buy the MCE card.

If you want to use MCE's pvr services, you need an MCE card. If you want to use 3rd party software, either will work.

WinTV2000, free on the drivers disk, or at hauppauge.com
Edit in videoredo, author in Movie Factory, burn with whatever software came with your burner.
