hi:

I am at my wits end. I have been using Ritek GO5's and Verbatims with about 250 clean burns (or at least I thought). I started getting some stuttering, freezing with the verbs so newegg refunded me. Then I went through 50 Riteks no problem. I just bgt another 100 go5's from meritline. I was getting some stuttering again. So I started checking the discs with dvdinfopro.

Every GO5 I was burning has read errors (usually near 80%) but also other spots, no consistency there. Now mind you are I am not watching the movie, just checking with dvdinfopro and getting read errors.

I just bgt TY's for the first time cause everyone loves 'em. they are ty002 8x, hub printable. I just now burned a copy at 6x. At 10% I'm getting read errors. Is it possible to get read errors but the movie will play ok or should the burn be clean? I have been considering these coasters and just dumping them. I have a very powerful computer, dma enabled, plextor 8x drive, 1 gig memory. I use shrink with anydvd and imgburn (decrypter burn engine).

I will now try a burn with the ty at 4x...any ideas? regards...

Make sure your burner's firmware is up to date and burn those TYs @ 8X and tell me what you get... See my profile for TY in + and - format burned @8X...

hi:

Thanks for prompt reply. I just burned the 2 movies that the verbs and go5's got read errors on. I burned them with the ty's at 4x and absolutely NO errors. I feel better. However, as i previously stated the top first disk I burned at 6x at it bombed at 10% on read errors.

Since I've never used TY's I have some questions. Why can't I burn at 8x? I set decrypter to max and only get 6x (which gave me that read error). I bgt these at meritline. The pachage doesnt say taiyo yuden. Just the top disk says ATTENTION in different languages. Are these top notch TY's? Lastly dvdinfopro id on these says YUDEN000then a crazy symbol that looks like a 0 with an > that points upward ontop of the 0...then T0.

decrypter id's it as YUDEN000-TO2-00
THANKS MUCH IF YOU CAN ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS AND HOW TO GET TO YOUR FORUM...REGARDS

YUDEN000T02 should be dvd+r's. Try booktyping those to dvd-rom with your plextor to increase compatibility. Could be that your set top player is picky.

hi:

Strange that I never had problems before with verbs or riteks. I first believed it was just bad batches. It happens. Then when the first TY had read errors it blew me away. I just tried another verb from the bad batch. I only have 4 left and burned a movie at 2x just to try to slow it down and read errors at 50% just one after the other. I also cleaned the plextor yesterday thinking that might help.

Now its possible that these discs will play the movie fine. I actually havent watched them. As soon as I see read errors I am assuming they wont play correctly and I'm dumping them. I'll check that out tonight...

Lastly, how do you book mark a dvd blank? Do you do it before or after the burn and what software should I use? Sorry, I know that I should know how to do that but hopefully you can help cause these read errors are buggin' me out. Thanks much...REGARDS...

I'm assuming that you have a PX-708A plextor drive. I don't have a plextor but there should be a setting in plextools to booktype DVD+R media to dvd-rom (you can't change booktype with DVD-R media, only dvd+r/rw).

If you can't figure it out, I'll get a buddy that has a plextor here to help.

hey mort:

Thank you. Could you do that for me. I don't have plextools. It didn't come with the drive. I do have the Plextor PX-708A. I got 5 movies for christmas that I will be backing up and trying the TY's with so I'll be busy all night. I'll go on my wife's computer to check the thread and figure out if I can get plextools off the web just to do the bookmarking.

I just got read errors on another Ritek go5 (been experimenting all afternoon) but the movie plays fine. Is it possible to get read errors but the movie still plays with no problems? If so, am I wasting my time with dvdinfopro checking them for errors? REGARDS...

What type of errors are you getting (ie PIE, PIF or CRC)?
Could you post a screen shot?

I wouldn't be too concerned with read errors especially if the dvd's are playing ok. Now if you start having playback problems, we need to look deeper. A log of your burn would be helpful as well.

I'll see if my buddy, arniebear, will join in and help you set up your plex. Plextools may only be available for PX-712A and PX-716A. I'm not sure.

ok cool re: plextools. To answer the other responder I am getting read errors. Dvdinfopro shows them as LBA errors with an address. I'll see if I can get them posted somehow later tonight. REGARDS...

As far as I know a Plex 708A is a true Plex. Should have come with the Plex Tools. Check you PM's and I will see what I can do about this :)

guys:

here are the errors I get with the GO5's and some 8x Verbs. This is the first time I've ever gotten errors with both media. seems like 2 fifty cakeboxes of each are all bad.

i just burned the same files with the TY's (o2+r's) and no errors. I guess this is just a bad batch of ritek and verbs.
the below errors run forever, i just cut and pasted a few...
THIS IS USING DVDINFOPRO:
Drive - PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A
Media ID Code - RITEKG05
Media Type - DVD-R
Read Error list
1. Error - LBA = 001ed348h
2. Error - LBA = 001ed349h
3. Error - LBA = 001ed34ah
4. Error - LBA = 001ed34bh
5. Error - LBA = 001ed34ch
6. Error - LBA = 001ed34dh
7. Error - LBA = 001ed34eh
8. Error - LBA = 001ed34fh
9. Error - LBA = 001ed350h
10. Error - LBA = 001ed351h
11. Error - LBA = 001ed352h
12. Error - LBA = 001ed353h
13. Error - LBA = 001ed354h

See you got those Plex Tools working, did you do the PI/PO test. This is what I use to see if disks scan bad. This was one of my worst.

@PennRon -

i haven't read the whole thread properly yet but have you considered your drive might be faulty ?.

it took me a while to realise my trusty year-old Sony DRU-700A was faulty when i experienced the same problem on different flavours of my beloved Verbatims and even the odd Verbatim TY.

Forgetting the fact that the two Litey 1693S's i bought to replace the Sony were faulty too, once i bought my two current LG drives i can now trust my burns again. Though as i'm paranoid i always watch a few of the burnt movies fairly soon afterwards to make sure i have no more problems that sneak in unawares

hi:

my reply to creaky...
I doubt my drive is faulty because everything about it works. It writes to cd's and reads everything. I can watch a dvd. It write to the taiyo Yudens beautifully. I truly believe that the verbs and riteks are bad.

my reply to arniebear:

how ya doin'? thanks again for the plextools. I updated them to latest version. The test you speak about only runs on the faster plextor drives. It isnt available on the px708. I just run the cd/dvd test which scans for errors. thanks again...
