I just got the sony DRU-800A for christmas and decided I wanted to try to copy some DVD's today. I made an attempt at copying a DVD using the following methods:

DVDShrink/Nero
Decrypter/Nero Recode
Nero Recode alone

All of these failed. Now I know im gonna get hounded for this and I am going to try different media when I can go to the store but yes I am using memorex DVD-R's and I know they are horrible.

The only reason I am posting this is because I was able to burn a data disc of about 2gb (just some random files) and windows read them all just fine, otoh I have tried to burn something like 10 DVD movies using a multitude of settings, telling nero recode to have a max movie size of 3000 mb and a million other things that did not work.

Posted below is a log of my last attempt.

I should also mention, the burn says it is completed successfully with no errors yet when I put the DVD into the drive of my computer or laptop all that is shown is an empty dvd with no available space.

Cliifs notes:
DVD Data burn Works
DVD movie burn successful but empty when read by 2 different computers
Nero 7/DVD Shrink/DVD Decode/ Nero Recode all same results
AnyDVD is in background
DRU-800A
Dreaded Memorex DVD-R's
Nforce 2 motherboard, DMA is on, ASPI downloaded, Burned using most recent firmware, nforce2 ATA controller ect.

Log Below, any questions please ask.

Update:

I did one last try in DVDShrink, I told it to compress the video down to under 3000 mb and it actually worked. All other times it would see the DVD as a "Blank CD". So this leads me to believe that the problem actually is the Memorex Media and it is unable to record to the end of the DVD.

Before I go to bed I am gonna try one last time to use dvd shrink to record a Wedding Crashers of 4000 mb just to see if I can get better quality.

If anyone has any comment on my log please let me know.

Bryan

Edit: Just burned the Bourne Supremacy to a DVD using a 4000 mb limit. I am getting pretty confident that the problem is the actual media unable to handle a full size dvd.

I know im preaching to myself here but I figure this is good for others to read.

I found a Verbatim DVD+R 16x disc and successfully recorded Wedding Crashers and played it back (including chapter 10) without any problems.

Obviously it was the memorex that was causing the problems.

- you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. i can never remember exactly how you alter set target size in Recode, but set target size to 4300MB thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space. In DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences

That DMA thing is wierd, when I go to dice manager it says that Ultra DMA 4 - Ultra 66 is turned on.

All of those drives are my adapted RAID controller and my 3 Hard drives and Daemon Tools.

I figured out my ram problem, I still had ORACLE running from doing work and it was taking up 300+ mb. The discs I figured out too, tried a Verbatim and it worked.

Last using DVD Shrink everything seemed to work much better than Nero.

Thanks
