Help! How to convert Avi so compatible for DVD-lab Pro

I have an avi film that I want to put on DVD using DVD-lab pro. But DVD-lab pro only accepts for

Video: mpg, mpeg, mp2, m2v.

And for audio: mpa, m2a, ac3, dts, wav, aiff.

What do I do? How do I convert the avi film and with what program and to what format (which keeps the best quality). Please help, I am a novice to DVD building and video files. Thanks!!!

If all you're trying to do is convert your .AVI files to DVD, just use avi2dvd to do the conversion.
