i got a question about software that make backups of dvds, such as DVD-D and DVD Shrink.
when you make a backup, does the program make the original cd region-free? does the program alter the DVD in any way, and is it possible for anyone to know that the DVD has been ripped? lastly, what are the latest security features on DVDs to prevent ripping and what programs can be used to get around them?

Shrink will make your backup region free not your original, the original remains the same.

The only thing the program does is rip the data, period. Once you rip it and then use Shrink to compress your data then fits on a DVD5 disk unless you choose to make a 1.1 backup using Dual Layer media.

If you are talking about your original, no.

DVD Decrypter and Shrink will still get around the majority of movies. For newer protected try the free programs DVDFab Decrypter and DVD43 and the pay program AnyDVD that has a 21 day free trial.
