After looking around on the forums for quite a while I haven't found too much information on Dual Layer dvd copies. I have the last version of DVD Decrypter and a Sony DRU-810A burner...

Will backing up all movies be as simple as making an ISO from DVD Decrypter and then burning the ISO onto a DVD+R DL disc? I mean.. will it be an exact copy each time without the need to recode since the new Dual Layer format is 8.5GB.

Pretty close D1ck1e,
it's worth learning how to use some of the reauthoring programs out there. all the ones I use are free and do a wonderful job. Usually I just keep the movie (only 1 angle) and the menues. tossing the extras, previews and warnings. As well as all the audio languages I don't speak. Then I compress it to no more than 80% and burn to a
30-40 cent 4.7gb single layer dvd. Unless it's a huge movie like the lord of the rings or the harry potter movies. Then It goes on a 4-5 dollar verbatim dual layer dvd. I guess it all depends on what you want the end result to be.

I use three main programs:

dvd decrypter
vobblanker
dvd shrink

these have done 99% of my back-ups.

After doing more research it seems everyone suggests using ImgBurn instead of Nero for DVD+R DL burning. Also, after some testing the two DVD players in my house respond much better to my Verbatim DVD+R DL discs than they do to the Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB media. When I use the -R discs the movie seems to skip a little every now and then. Is this merely because I am using DVD-R instead of DVD+R?

try burning at slower speeds like 4x-8x. i ahvent tried -r verbs just the +r format. i used to use -r sonys before i learned how to booktype. they played very good, no coasters at all. by the way i have used dvddecrypter to rip in iso and burn in iso many times with much success. imgburn is newer and still updated. some of the newer movies have extra protection(mostly sony) where they put bad sectors on the dvd. u will need vobblanker or pgcedit to remove it. most of the older movies(sony protection started around here in late 2004) all u should need is dvd derypter and/or imageburn

Ok, another question. If I rip a movie with DVD Decrypter and burn it with imgburn (verify after burn) and everything says it's good... is it really good or could there still be bad sectors?

I noticed that when I played my newly burned DVD+R DL Verbatim on an old dvd player - it stuttered every now and then but played fine on my xbox. Is this the fault of the player or the burned dvd?

kinda a waste of time to verify. you might get bad sectors and the movie runs just fine. I suggest watching it to verify. it could be your player. I use a cheap one and sometimes a movie will stutter or freeze and other times it plays just fine.
