Hi all,

Im new to all this backup stuff so my knowledge isnt very good at all. After reading the forums here i downloaded DVD Shrink and bought CloneDVD and AnyDVD and ive been backing up dvds for about a month with no problems. The other day i tried to back up a dvd on clone DVD and a message came up "Burn process failed could be bad media". The thing is ive been using these discs with no problem at all (imjet dvd-r) and ive opened a different packet and they dont work either. Ive tried to back up using DVDShrink and CloneDVD and in both cases it copies the Dvd fine to the temp folder but wont burn. I tried to backup my Lee Evens xl tour dvd and that failed but i can watch it until about an hour into it then it freezes. So is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem? If so just bare in mind im a beginer but im not lazy if you can point me in the right direction ill try to sort it myself.

Thanx alot for taking the time to read my post.

P.s this is the log from the last burn that failed on DVDShrink.

First, you need to go back to your post, and click on the pencil and paper symbol to edit out your serial number in you log. It starts with

or someone will steal your copy of Nero.
Quote:
Nero API version: 6.6.0.8
your nero version is behind. Latest 6x is 6.6.0.18

http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php
Looks like your firmware is out of date on that drive.
Quote:
Recorder: <PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110> Version: 1.22 -
this one shows the 110D, but it matches your old version listing.
Looks like you need to go up to 1.37
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2140
and your old nero is not seeing your drive:
Quote:
Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 1
Drive is autodetected - recorder class: Std. MMC recorder
update of nero will fix that.

You are burning too close to the edge of the disc. Change target size to Custom 4300 in Nero or shrink. Nero hides it under the More>> settings on the burn screen.

You are attempting to burn too fast. Keep it down to 4x until you get the bugs worked out and then you shouldn't go any faster than 8x for a burn. You get waaay more errors when you burn at high speeds.

if those are real Taiyo Yudens (fakes are out there) i think those are only rated at 4x burn speed.

Says it didn't like your media, but that could be the out of date firmware and old nero giving you the old double wammy...
Update those and try again..

Cheers i burned using shrink at 4x and it worked fine i also lowered to 4300. I tried again with CloneDVD and forgot to reduce the speed and it failed. I tried again at 4x and it burned straight off! Its strange because ive been burning at 12x for the last 50 or so backups ive done and ive had no probs but saying that i have just opened 2 new cakes of dvd's. Even though this worked do you think i should update my firmware and Nero still?

Cheers mate

Yes, update. Firmware is the drive manufacturers updates to handle newer media tested against the drive. Nero out of date can cause lots of problems also, as they fixed bugs in the program. Also the old version of Nero wasn't even seeing your drive, and gave it a generic listing.
4x burn speed is the best to go. Only if you get good media, and test it should you even try above 4x and 8x is the most ppl will do and keep any kind of quality. You don't increase time by too much, and you get a DVD, not a coaster. Also some media is only rated for 4x and trying a 12x burn on 4x media is called OVERBURNING for a number of reasons. The media manufacturer said 4x was all they were good for. Attempt anything faster on them, and it is likely coaster time.
