this question is in the "Read this first" post...but the link to the guide doesnt exist anymore....

Need some more help as to why my drive is both ripping and burning slow....i have a LG dual layer 16X drive...512 mb p4 2.8
i have both my burner and my cd rom set to cable select mode.

I have my drives set to cable select, make sure your comp supports this. I have a Dell and that is the recommended, however you can set them to master and slave also.

yeah i have a dimension 2400...and it told me in the manual to put it to cable select....so after i enable DMA my burner will be able to actually read and write at what its supposed to?

well...it did go faster, thats for sure....i was able to read at 5x..rather than 1.7x before...but my drive is a 16x...shouldnt i be able to reach the drives full potential? lol

burns at 16x

reading depends on dvd encrytions etc

I usually get an average of 5 to 7 with my Lite-on 167T reader on a dl pressed DVD, if it is a single layer pressed I will get 11 to 12 it all depends as stated on the encryptions and disk.
