cant get dvds to read in dvd player

i get the dvd to write to the dvd but when i put it in the dvd player it says cannot read disc dirty.. anyone have idea what im doing wrong?????

ok, my experience has been this;
i own 3 different dvd stand alone players, i use the same discs all the time ridata -r, for the most part they all play in all my dvd plyares, but occassionally, some will not play in 1 or 2 of my players, sometimes i get the error message 'disc dirty' other times i'll get 'disc empty' and other times, i'll get media not recognized. there's seems to be no ryhme or reason for this, other than the disc itself being slightly flawed. also it doesn't matter what brand disc you use, verbatam, Y.D. maxwell, they all have their flaws. It does help to use quality media, but doesn't eliminate the problem. try burning it again and try it, i've done that as well and it worked, sometimes it won't play if i burn in 'dvd file mode, and then i'll burn it again in 'iso' mode and it works, go figure? bottom line dvd players, blank media, they all are somewhat querky.
