i read in the media sales post about checking the inner hub to see what it read. to we need software for this? or visually inspecting with our eyes what it says, how do we do this and if it is ty media what special marks are we looking for, i bought 8x sony mij media last week so i thought that it was ty, but now there is the talk of inner hub readings. just curious,

Inner hub (burnable side of media) = naked eye (may have to tilt to get the right angle/light)

Media ID/Code = software

@halfhere

which 8x Sony's did you happen to purchase? if you got the 8x DVD+R MIJ, then those are TYs...as teflonmyk stated, you can find these inner hub readings by simply looking for it with the naked eye~ :) it's very small, inscribed by laser...so, might need to break out a pair of glasses or magnifying tool to see it~ hehehe

you SHOULD see TG000xxx (where xxx is the batch number) if you got the MIJ 8x DVD+R Sonys...both saugmon and maxburn have confirmed on the 8x DVD+R Sonys & 8x DVD-R Sonys respectively here in THIS thread:

Sony coded media is quite good, the REAL issue at hand here is whether or not you got the Taiyo Yudens or not, if THAT is your sole purpose of sifting through various spindles locally...i guess if you get what you are looking for you should be happy, but if not, then don't worry too much as the Sony coded media isn't too shabby in my book~ :)

Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

great info kivory666 thanks for the help, :) much appreciated, i haven't had any problems at all with any of my sony burns. i bought the 8x -r format dvds for my burner and all have played great. i burned i think close to maybe 300 with sony, no coasters, but my mentality is "i want the best" as to circumvent any potential problems in the future, i think that maybe my next buy will be from supermediastore.com the genuine ty's. thanks again.

no problemo, i'm here to CLARIFY and help~ :) i'm glad you are having good success w/ Sony's own coded media...while i'm limited in my own experiences with Sony compared to the other guys/you included, i do have to say it's good stuff from what i have used so far, however limited it may be~

docTY~

happy burnin'
