Well, I was too quick to speak in the last thread I started! Oye!
Here's the deal, I've installed a new burner recently and also ANYDVD. Although I don't think ANYDVD is the problem so much as my new burner is, I'm open to any suggestions to getting my comp operational again.
I've tried hooking my 2 drives, one an ASUS cd-RW and the other a new LG GSA 4166B DVD ROM burner up in the different configurations. It says in my LG manual to hook the burner up in master and to NEVER hook up two cd drives (whatever they may be) up to the same IDE cable.
has anyone heard of this before because it seems like 2 drives on 1 cable has never been a problem before.
On top of that, even when hooking only one of my drives up, my computer doesn't function normally. When a cd is in the drive, windows has a horrible time opening the disc. Sometimes the comp will completely freeze, other times the comp just takes an extrememly long time to open any Discs. I thought ANYDVD was screwing up my comp because for a while, I could open my discs up and explore them but not run any proggies off of them.
I don't know where to go from here, I've installed my Nvidia chipset drivers all again since that's what the Asus site reccomends doing (apparently there is no Firmware specific to my device and since it's an ASUS product as is my MOBO, ASUS's answer is reinstalling the chipset update :P
Anyone ever ran into anything like this before? Even if there's a disc in the drive upon the windows boot screen, the loading of windows won't finish until I remove the disc from the drive! I hope it's as easy as adjusting some bios setting!
Please help! I know I have a P.O.S. in progress but this is getting to be really annoying!

make sure you connect the drives on the secondary ide cable not on the cable that is connected to the HD which is the primary ide cable and the dvd rw is the master on the back of the drives you will see one pin which can be moved to three different connectios they will say master slave and cable select your dvd will be master your cd will be slave

when you pull that little clip off to change between slave and master, does it matter which way it goes back on?it fits either way
i've even left my cd-rom unhooked and just hooked up my dvd burner and thats when the computer will boot up but the burner isn't recognized and the light stays on

does the burner show up in device manager if it does then you may have abad burner if there is a disc in the drive to remove it turn off your computer and take a paper clip and look uner the drawer of the burner you will see a tiny hole insert the end of the clip into the hole and push the draw will open then remove the disc then turn on the computer and try again but do not put in a disc in the drive and see what happens

It's good to know I ain't the only one with this annoying problem. Good news for me though.
I got both my drives working by using the device manager, going to my CD-RW and rolling back the driver. The manual with my DVD rom warns not to upgrade firmware while the DVD rom is connected with any other drives on the same IDE strand! Of course, when I first got my drive, I updated immediatly and I think that may have screwed the existing firmware up in my original cd RW.
I'm going to try and see if my system runs when the DVD ROM is master with the driver roll back now!
Also, as far as your jumper settings(little clips on the back), I think it's best not to use "Cable Select" C/S. I've heard you need special IDE cables to use this setting. I don't know if I have them, or even what they look like, heh. Going the manual is always safer.
Good Luck!
