Ok...first of all...it sounds cool. Second of all...it's called "Blu-Ray" not blue ray.
Blu-Ray has more capacity than HD-DVD. 25Gigs per layer to be exact. Theres double layer BluRay discs and they are working on adding even more layers per disc. Thats currently 50 gigs of space per disc. PS3 uses Blu-ray, which means that they will be able to add lots of content to those discs, and make amazing games because they will have so much room to work with. 360 on the other hand, uses DVD-5 discs at 4.7Gigs. HD-DVD is only 15Gigs per layer.

Blu-ray is the next gen format that is favored to win the format war against HD-DVD. HD-DVD is kinda a lost cause with no benefits and a 15GB per layer limitation in home and PC uses.
Fanboy is a term used to describe someone who is utterly devoted to a single subject. This generally is followed by the devotion and support even when proved wrong.
Anecdotal, by my definition, it's the way too many people here think. It's also all the evidence you have.

My advice: Wait for PS3.

Since the Blu-ray is so good, could you give me an example of what could it do to socom online?

Heres the Main Idea. 2-Layer Blu-ray disc=50Gigs. 50Gigs is a very large amount of space. That means, that games(including Socom) could have more content, and that includes better visuals, better audio, more levels, etc... It would mean Longer and Better games could be made.

Maps you download could almost be stored on the BD-R itself in another session. But I don't know if PS3 will have burning capabilities.
I think we really just need to support Blu-ray because it's just plain the most useful all around. Like home back-ups and video storage. HD-DVD will go out of capacity in less eyar and you'll eb forced to buy their new format AGAIN, when Blu-ray has promised us 10-15 years. 25GB per layer, keeps us from being forced into another damn format later.

Impossible for the games, but possible in time with movies. It will take a logn time for the HD-DVD and BD-R movies to be cracked, and it will most likely require a modchip in the player and possibly the recording device. It will be HARD, with either one.

Cracking the PS3's security thing will be one thing, another thing is Blu-ray PS3 disc might not be able to be readable by Blu-ray drives, just like what MS did with the original XBOX. So that means you might have to FTP your PS3 to your PC and transfer teh data, and if the game is like 20GB, it will take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONGGGGGGGGGGGG time to transfer, I'm guessing around, umm... 3-5days?

DVD DRM was ALL ot the software level, code can be cracked. Now they are takign ti to the hardware level, everythign you play it on has to be HDCP compatible amongts 4 other bus controls systems. The lamest way to get the data is by duplicating it off the PCI bus when it comes through a card, but they have even covered that base right away.
I'd rather not novel about it, so just look up some of the new DRM methods on the net PVP-UAB i think is one along with AACS and HDCP. The most important thing is that they are lockign up our hardware.
