Hi i tried to encode the longest yard for the first time today and i cant even open it.
I try to use dvd shrink to actually open the disc using the 'open disc button' then i select the drive and this says 'THE_LONGEST_YARD' i am running anydvd in the background, then i click ok and an error message comes up on dvd shrink:
Invalid dvd navigation structure.
Can any one help me?
Thanks James

It's been a bit since I did this one - can't remember if it has anything special or not. Used AnyDVD and CloneDVD.
Are you using the latest AnyDVD 5.8.2.1? The last couple of updates were to fix some of the problems newer movies gave shrink.
You can also rip with dvdfab decrypter then process thru shrink.
Again fab decrypter was recently updated to help shrink handle these files.

Hmm, strange. I burnt that using DVD Shrink 3.2 without any problems.

BTW, is there any way to update DVD Shrink?

Shrink is no longer being updated - the last update was over a year ago. The programmer works for Nero. If you have 3.2.0.15 you have the last update.
The only way to help it with the newer copy protection is running AnyDVD or DVD43 in the background.

i did this movie last night with DVDFab Decrypter (Shrink alone wouldn't do it, can't remember the error now). After DVDFab Decrypter did it's thing Shrink then moaned about the DVD being too big (ie it just warned about the size) as follows -
Quote:
Target Size Exceeded

The current DVD size is too big. If you continue, you may not be able to burn the resulting files. etc etc... Are you sure you want to continue
Shrink worked fine but then i checked it and there's a minute long blank gap at start of film so redid it and just tweaked the start/end frames in Shrink and chopped out the blank section, no problem.

ps DVDFab Decrpyter (free) is here - http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

Right, I had same trouble and want to say thanks for the help. Here's how I done it in the end:

1. Rip files from DVD using DVDFab Decrypter.
2.Use DVD Shrink to take out audio/extras you don't want.
Encode with DVD Shrink even though output file is too large for normal DVD.
3.Convert DVD Shrink output files to New Folder usind DVD2One.
4.Burn with Nero.

Took a while to get all this done but kept most of extras, movie is great quality, and I enjoy a challenge now and again!!!

Hope this helps some more people.

Hey, heres what I've always done when DVD Shrink doesnt make the files small enough for one DVD. Run it thru shrink again:) It has worked all 3 times for me.

I am having nothing but problems with The Longest Yard, trying both DVD Decrypter (first) and then DVDFab Decrypter, both seem to lock up and stop reading the disc at the same point. I inspected the DVD physically and there doesn't seem to be any damage. I have tried rebooting and reloading the programs but that didn't seem to work either. Someone mentioned to just use DVD Shrink alone, but that doesn't work either! Is there anything else I can try, I'm very new to the world of backing up my movies, any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I reccommend downloading DVD43. Google it and youll find it.

Then, pt the disc in, wait until the DVD43 face thingy in your tray turns green, that means it's working. Then open DVD Shrink, st the compression to "Automatic" and you should be set. If it's too big to fit on a dvd, just run the files thru Shrink again. Basically, you do the same thing except for instead of clicking on open disc, click on open files. That should work fin. BTW, are you using Nero?

I'm not using Nero, I've been using DVD Shrink to do everything. I just put the DVD to copy in, select re-code, then backup! Is it any easier using Nero?

Shrink needs something to help it burn so your either using decrypter or Nero to burn. Nero can be as easy as shrink but it can't do copy protected discs w/ help from DVD43 or AnyDVD.
What region are you in? If region 1 or 2 you may have a bad press which you won't be able to see but your ripper sure does. It sounds like there are read errors and this is stopping you from ripping it.
Here's a guide for hard to rip dvd's that may help:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide9.html
If this doesn't work you should exchange it for a new one.

I'm having trouble as well. I have a brand new lite on DL drive, newest AnyDVD, newest clonedvd2, decrypter, dvdfab, shrink.... I can't burn The Longest Yard or Monk season 2 with any of the combinations. Clonedvd2 states cyclic redundancy error, and decrypter- unrecoverable read error, even with ignore read errors checked.
I'm fairly a newbie, but have burnt about 400 disks without this kind of trouble. I've cleaned, re-cleaned, and repaired the disks, still no luck.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.

Check out the quide in my post above. It's sounds like your discs may be bad presses. If you have another drive try ripping with that one. Or try a lens cleaner - cleaning the lens can sometimes help the drive read/rip thru those bad spots.

thanks binkie, I've tried cleaning disk and lens. Still nothing. I've tried two of petes guides referring to different methods of burning tough media, still no luck. At the risk of asking a stupid question, what exactly is a bad press, and why will the disks still work in my stand-alone, but not in my pc's drive? I can play them just fine, but even trying to watch them on my pc, without any burning progs. running, they still have the CRC error?

No question is stupid! It's how we all learn! A bad press is a flaw in the dvd. You can't see but your ripper can. They are very sensitive to any errors/flaws in the disc cause they are trying to rip everything but you standalone is more forgiving and might just read right over it not skipping a beat. You can also make sure your drives firmware is up to date - at the very least it will help your drive keep up w/ burning media. So your best bet is probably to exchange these for new ones and try again.

The Longest Yard uses the latest Sony Arccos Puppet Lock Protection system. You will need to run The very latest 5.8.4.1 version of AnyDVD
in the background otherwise the Disc will lock up regardless of what you are using to try and rip it.
