Guys, I need your help. I?ve been burning DVD-Rs for a couple of months now. Been using Decrypter (file mode), then Shrink, then Nero. I have a Pioneer burner and a Pioneer player. Always Verbatim media, always 4x burning. Everything worked great.
But one day I started getting CANNOT BE PLAYED in the player. I had to throw away like 6 dvd-rs.
So I changed the process. I started Decrypter (iso read), then Shrink, then Decrypter again (iso write). It worked for a couple of days until today I got CANNOT BE PLAYED again. Two times in a row.
Maybe a bad spindle?
Today I noticed something strange. After burning the dvd with decrypter (not having ejected the disc yet), I opened dvdinfo pro, and everything was ok! I then put the disc on the player and?CANNOT BE PLAYED. Then I took it back to the computer, and it was unreadable.
I really don?t know what the hell is going on.

Is this a downloaded movie? Depending on your country origin, it could be PAL or NTSC. Your burner may not be compatible with either or. Or, have you installed/uninstalled any programs since the burner last functioned properly? Have you applied any windows updates, patches or hotfixes? Does your burner require a firmware update?

No. It is not a downloaded movie.

Always NTSC.
Quote: Or, have you installed/uninstalled any programs since the burner last functioned properly?
I really don't remember. I install and uninstall programs all the time.
Quote: Have you applied any windows updates, patches or hotfixes?
This is interesting. Yeah, I recently installed ALL windows critical updates... What could be the problem?
Quote: Does your burner require a firmware update?
It's a Pioneer 110. I updated to the latest firmaware (1.37).
I just burned a movie. I tried it on the player. Worked GREAT. Then I burned ANOTHER copy (from the same ISO), and I get the CANNOT BE PLAYED.
The strange thing is when ImgBurn finished burning, I tried the DVD on the computer. It worked ok. Then i took it to the player and get the CANNOT BE PLAYED. I take it back to the computer and now it's unreadable. WTF???!!!!!!!

Have the DVD's youve bought changed at all? like they were 4x now they support 8x?
Cause 8x dvd's wouldn't burn for me until I updated my firmware
other than that sounds like your laser is dying...

I have always used 8x Vervatim and burned in 4x. And I have the latest firmware.

stan_2006 your problem is not your burner, its your DVDs. Look at the warning and uses labeled on the back of the DVD-R package when you buy it. It will say that DVD-R are compatible with most DVD players, BUT, not all.
Here's your answer. DVD-Rs work on most DVD players, but most players don't support DVD-Rs. You should use DVD+R, and this will work on all DVD players for sure.
:) hope this helps you

WTF man .MOST standalone dvd player DO support DVD-R more than DVD+R your best bet if you are going to use DVD+R is to booktype them to dvd-rom this is the most compatible format for all dvd players

try using better media (Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim) try a better program and burn at 4x without anything running in the background and make sure your firmware on your drive is up to date
