been looking at this board, from time to time, and found people are having problems backing up dvd movies, especially with the new protections, main programs being used dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, and volblanker, i tried using these programs my god it's confusing,
enable this, that, block here, there.
you have to be rocket scientist to figure out what to do.
the movies never seem to come out right, and i am not alone.
maybe if i have someone sitting next to instructing what to do
i could eventually learn how to do it, but there are programs out there
which make copies of movies a one click affair, without problems, bypass
the new protections like a hot knife through butter. so tell what is so good about dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, volblanker

The most common thing between the three is that they are for free. There is no need to pay.And the other thing is that they do the same thing as other programs, even better than some. And lots of people still like using them because they feel what they are doning not something like one click and that it.I personally have peasure doing the extra steps with them. But i use anydvd as well wich have to be paid for. :-)

thats not right and if you follow exactly step by step you wont fail.Once when i started i used the same guides and i did well from then without a failed backup.

i agree the saving grace is they are free,
but after finding a program where all you have to do start the program,
choose if you want to make complete copy, or just the movie
set it and just forget it. it does everything for you.
and get a perfect copy, everytime. no wasted time, no ruined blank dvd's
no tying to figure out what to delete. you don't mind paying for it.
its like doing math by pencil and paper, instead of using a calculator
it makes it a heck of alot easier. maybe there will be a time when there are no updates for the program, than i agree with you its better to use these programs and try to figure out step by step what to do to get a good copy of a movie. until then, its easier to let the program do the
work, instead of laboring hours trying to figure it out what to do.
many people are having difficult times trying to figure out what to do also, just look at the posts in here and you see what i am talking about

Its only good for all of us if there is lots of people figuring out how to decrypt these new movies because like that there is a slighter chance that the others will fail on that specific backup.

I'm sorry but fab decrypter, decrypter, VOB banker, and shink are all no brainer programs. The problem is that no one wants to invest 5 mins. in reading posts on how to use them. If anyone wants a 20 sec. post on how to copy using these programs, I'll give it to you..

Have Fun

I like DVD Shrink because it gives me more control over the movie I am copying, the one-click solutions don?t. That?s why I still use it for 80% of all movies I back up.
It?s really not that hard to use. Just Read a few of the guides here at AD and all your questions will be answered.

I found using the three programs mentioned confusing at times. Shrinks is so easy and using other programs with it at times can get a little hairy. But the easy fix for that is the Guides. I read some of the posts here, and made some posts myself, got directed to the links for guides. Did a quick print, spent less then 5 minutes reading the Guide and Tada perfect back ups. Really was easy. I found out looking at the guides that it is easy, but I believe being my first time using some these programs, like a lot of things, people doing it for the first time try to make it harder then it is. I guess its human nature. I won't say all the guides will help with every problem but thats why you can post. Whenever I have posted I have always got a helpful answer. Normally get the answer faster then I can check my email. Best thing to do when you come across a problem back up is look at the posts or skip to the Guides. Has worked for me every time. Keep up the great work and help all of the folks here.

Learning more but still leaning on a Newbie status! :)

**EDITED: my apologize (misread for some reason).

According to my experiences, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, DVDFAB Decrypter and VobBlanker are top notch programs, even ARccOS and RipGuard can't beat them. (*Note: DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and DVDFAB Decrypter are all rippers? DVD Shrink can still rip nearly 90% of the movies, DVD Decrypter can easily rip any new relese dvds if the individual knows how to use it "especially with PSL2 plugin and PgcEdit", DVDFAB Decrypter updates regularly so it can handle any RipGuard or ARccOS smoothly). In addition, they're all FREE, yes... free and extremely useful, no AnyDVD or DVD43 required.

Alkohol, although my post was pretty poorly written I don't see that I ever said anything negitive about those programs. I was just stating that those programs are very easy to use.

Bar none. AnyDVD and CloneDVD is the best product combination you can get. Pop in the original DVD, a blank one. Hit a few buttons and you're done. And everytime there's a change that takes people hours to troubleshoot with DVDShrink and the other pile of free programs, AnyDVD already has an update to download.

I used to do the shrink/dycrypter etc. thing. But for the $49 I spent on AnyDVD and Clone. It's incredibly cheap considering all the time and headaches I've saved.

People say they can't afford it, yet how is it they can afford all those DVD's?

What's so great about rocket scientists - they only know how to countdown from 10 to 1, haha...
I used DVD XCopy Platinum for more than a year. When I switched over to DVD Decrypter & then to DVD Shrink, I did not even glanced at the guide. It's so easy to use. Now I am progressing to CloneDVD2 - another easy program. I am no geek but an old man but not too old to learn.

i agree its sometimes better to purchase a program and let other
people figure out how to over come the new protections, the time you save and ruin dvd's trying to make a copy make it worth while investment
you can't beat making a backup copy in less than 30 min. rather than spending hours trying to figure out how to do it.

Question what is the average time it takes someone using DVD Shrink, dvd
decrypter, and volblanker, and what ever else you need to made a perfect
back up. it can't be less the 30 min. even if you know what you are doing. let alone if you don't have a clue.

i am still going to try to learn to use these software, just in case.
there comes a day when the software i am using is banned and no longer available

take care.

Rip with AnyDVD running behind Nero with no compression = 5 minutes

Burn with Nero at 6X = 13 minutes

Grand total 18 minutes.

Do what works best for you, but for 99% of ADer's DVD Decryper, DVD Shrink, AnyDVD, DVDFab Decrypter, and Nero will be in their arsenal.

Of course there's the arguement that with the programs you pay for, you are leaving a trail the MPAA and Government could use at a later date when they feel like being dicks about copy rights. Unless of course you paid in cash at a store. Could happen, look at how fast our rights have been flying out the window when it comes to big business and fatherland...er I mean Homeland security.

Dvd shrink is the best transcoding app that doesn't cost anything. I would use clonedvd 2 or nero recode 2 any time over shrink but then again I seldom use either of those two either. I am very particular about the video quality of my backup's and am a dvdremake and RB/CCE man and will never go back. You have to break the encryption regardless of what program you use to compress so I might as well use the best. I don't mean to offend anyone. I'm just expressing my preferance, opinion, and personal experience.

decrypter shrink & VOB blanker are all very good programs & are very easy to use. i am no rocket scientist & i manage to make perfect back ups every time. decrypter is one click, shrink is 3 clicks and VOB blanker will process all files for you & remove bad files automatically with 3 clicks of the mouse. i have several back ups & i have not had one bad back up. there are one click programs (i have some of them) but sometimes people may want to remove files or add 2 or more movie files to one disc shrink will allow you to do this where as one click programs just do one thing in one click. you can never have 2 many programs to back up your movies & from time to time may need to use different programs to do different things. i have learnt so much by using different programs & reading forums for advice & help to use new programs. i have learnt so much & am alwsys learning
i guess if you want to just sit back & learn nothing then one click programs are what you need, if you wish to learn & improve your skills then you may want to use different programs!
Each to there own preference.
