Ok, so this question might have already been answered but nothing came up in my search and I was not going to scrool through 400 plus pages. I was wondering about DVD discs. How much can you store on one disc. Like it says 4.7GB and 120 min but which one does it use. If I use DivxToDVD, then DvdShrink and then DVD Decryptor to convert, shrink and then burn files to a DVD, can I store 3 hours of video as long as it's under 4.7GB? Or can I store over 4.7 GB as long as it's under 2 hours? I'm confused.

And the reason I am confused is because my friend lent me some DVD's that she purchased from ebay that have 4 forty-five minute episodes on them which adds up to 3 hours. If I burn 3 hours of a tv show to a DVD, will it all be there? I am asking this question because I don't want to go through the hours of converting and shrinking and burning for something that won't even work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hi,

standard dvd blanks can actually only hold about 4.3gb of data/video...the 4.7gb capacity on the label is somewhat misleading...but, as per your question, if you use DVD Shrink, and compress the episodes enough, then it IS quite possible to put 3+ hours onto a single layer dvd...however, i can almost assure you the quality will be very poor...even with the enhanced settings ticked...

it CAN be done...but you will have to deal with the poor quality for something that is 3+ hours long on a single layer dvd...if at all interested, for something THAT lengthy, while pricey, i would suggest the DVD9 discs (dual layer/double layer) if your burner can support them...and go with Verbatim DVD+R DL...those are the highest quality DLs at this point in time...

need more info as to WHAT model number/brand your burner is to give you an accurate answer if it's DL capable as well as bitset capable too~ :)

I don't have a dual layer DVD burner. I may be getting a new computer in the near future so that may be something I will look into.

sounds good...but, if you don't mind splitting up the tv shows and putting them on single layer discs, you might get better quality video that way~ :)

i personally feel 3 hours is a "tad much", but that's just me, to compress ALL onto a single layer disc (4.3-4.4gb is actually what you are working with, not full 4.7gb)...but, if you can manage to squeeze it all in there and the resulting picture quality is acceptable to you, by all means do it and good luck~ :)

Thanks. The reason why I want the most episodes on one disc as possible is because I am copying 4 seasons of a show on discs and I don't want there to be 40 discs! lol But I will try some with 4 and some with three episodes and see how that goes. First I have to try and figure out how to do a menu!
