My 120GB Maxtor wouldn't spin up last week. So I got another Maxtor drive (160GB)...I took it out of the package, hooked it up to PC, formatted with WINHIIP, put some games on there, put it in the PS2, won't detect it. I have tried a new network adapter, reformatting, 28 48 bit etc and still won't detect it. HDD doesn't seem like it has any power in PS2 even with new adapter. Tried it at a friends house, plugged into his network adaptor, and bingo it works....maybe I need a sys config reset?
Is there something else in PS2 that powers the harddrive? What else can I try? Any help appreciated.

It might just be your network adapter.

Mine does the same thing.???

I plugged it into my first PS2 v3 and it works great. I plug it into my V5 and it doesn't work at all.

It's like there is no power to the network adapter. I did notice that the outer edge around the connector on the PS2 is different.

My working one is black plastic and the non-working is metal.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
