I also have installed FFDShow twice but it still doesn't work. GSpot gives me the following answer: This is, or appears to be, an unsupported filetype. GSpot provides full support for AVI and OGG media streams. Based on its composition, GSpot believes the filetype to be "Non-Avi File - Type Unkown".
Windos Media Player just plays the Audiostream. Other Players like VLC close immediately and throw an exception(error).
All video encoders like Dr.Divx, MpegEncoders, nero don't even find a videostream
For mp4 the only decoders you should need are:
MPEG-4 Part2 such as FFDShow, XviD, DivX
AVC (H.264) such as CoreAVC or ffdshow
aac such as coreAAC or ffsdhow
mp3 such as the windows default or ffdshow
ALS, such as ???. Don't think there are any decoders yet, but I doubt anyone is using ALS yet.
That is about it, well other than MPEG-1/2, which FFDShow can also handle. Also stuff like vorbis/theora stored as private streams or anything else stored as a private stream.
Basically FFDShow can decode just about everything MPEG-4. You of course also need an mp4 splitter.
VLC includes an mp4 splitter though and AAC, mp3, MPEG-4, AVC, etc. decoders though. It should be able to play any spec compliant mp4 file. Private streams should be ignored if not supported.
problem solved.yesterday i downloaded the newest VLC player which even plays the "corrupt" files.but anyway it's strange that although i ve got nearly every mp4 codec, no one of my other players is able to play the videostream...
another question: any recommendations for a mp4 to dvd/avi/mpeg converter?
