hey guys, im renting the Sopranos DVDs and trying to burn them, but i read online that there is CSS encryption...now does anyone have an easy to understand FAQ or guide that shows how to remove the encryption and then burn the DVD in the fastest possible time. I plan on using DVD-5 discs and would also like to shrink the data since sopranos disks are about 9 GB. Thanks for tha help

Also, what kind of blank DVDs should i buy, DVD-R or DVD+R,? What is the step to burning the files to the blank DVD? What program to use and how to do it, preferable with an online guide....thanks in advance

what apps did you use to rip it?
also just load it to dvd shrink, its a pretty easy app to grasp! also set output size in options to 4300, then make sure you use deep analysis! as its big file to compress
http://www.dvdshrink.info/fulldisk_basic.php (press next button picture in guide to move on!!!!)
ignore first part as you allready ripped it just load what you ripped! dvd shrink can rip too!
Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Try reading some of the 'guides' in Afterdawn (see 'Guides' tab). They provide detailed step by step instructions. Here is one that uses Shrink and Image Burn (could also use DVD Decrypter);
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shr...
In your first post you say you are renting the disks to copy, in subsequent posts you say they are your disks, what's the story?
regards

Suggest using either Image Burn or DVD Decrypter. There is an option in Shrink when selecting back up to write an ISO file and burn with DVD Decrypter.
Either DVD-R or DVD+R media can be used. Most burners and standalone DVD players will support either type. In addition if your burner supports it the DVD+R media can be set to ('Booktyped') DVD-ROM which can make it compatible with more DVD players. DL disks cost more (prices have dropped) and allow copying the entire original without compressing/removing material.
Use the 'Glossary' section on this forum to learn terminology. Use the 'Search' function to look for past threads containing info you need. The type of questions you are asking have been discussed numerous times.
Also one of the most important things I have found is to use good media, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Fuji, etc (made in Japan) are some of the names that come to mind. A good source is; http://www.supermediastore.com/index.html
Watch for their 'shipping included' specials for good prices.
good luck
PS; when backing up something like this (Episodic series like 'Sopranos', '24' etc.) it might be best to 'split' the disks. That is if there are four episodes on one original put the first two on one disk and the second two on another. Shrink can eiisly do this and you will have no video compression and resulting loss of quality.

Nasty media, go to bestbuy or staples and for 15.00 you can get 50 sony, much better. And no a DVD-Rom is only a reader not a writer.

That would be good to check and make sure just what your computers have. If you have Decrypter just go into the tools tab, drive and then capabilites, or just use your device mgr it will tell you :)

Why not check and see what drives you have now, so we can see what you have to work with.

hey i check em and its says that they cant write dvds...i may have to buy a $60 external dvd burner from circuit city...also does DVD Shrink remove the CSS encryption on dvds such as sopranos...i hear that for it to work the encryption needs to be bypassed? Also does dvd decryptor remove the encryption? Also, is it possible to just burn a sopranos DVD without ripping the files first, like when you backup a music cd? thanks in advanc
