I've recently acquired a movie about a big gorilla on 2 cd's in avi format. The quality is awesome on both cd's. However, when I tried to convert to MPEG II or DVD, it all goes to H in a handbag. Obviously not all converts go exactly as planned, but the quality goes almost to a sephia with way out of whack audio. Here's what I've tried.

I successfully joined both avi's to one with Super Video Converter

I imported into Nero 7 and created DVD movie converting the avi's directly to DVD.
I tried importing the avi's into Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus and converting to DVD.
I tried winAVI to MPEG II and DVD
I tried aviToDVD
I tried DVDSanta

Nothing works. all gave me the same results. Anybody got any other ideas as to how I might be able to get this to convert with some kind of quality and lined up audio?

Thanks to all in advance

Dang! You pretty much tried everything huh? How about VSO's DivXtoDVD. That's my primary AVI converter. See if you can get an old free version. The current free version has a watermark on it. If that doesn't bother you get it.

Well, I downloaded the program last night and will try it tonight to see if it will work. That really p's me off how the quality changes so drastically.

Well, I had a few more issues than just trying to convert with DivX to DVD. Because the movie's second part had such poor audio alignment I chose to use virtualdubMOD to extract the audio streams and save as wav.
However, I now need to actually remove the audio within the avi's all together so that when I re-compile this into a DVD with NeroVision I am able to add the streams to the movie so that they align properly. I did a test last night with Nerovision and was able to do this, but the AVI audio is still in place, therefore I've got two audio streams running simultaneously. Kind of neat though, because my wav lines up and the AVI audio is still out of whack. It sounds like an echo. Neat doesn't cut it though because I'm looking to get this DVD created properly. I encoded the whole movie to PAL since that was what it's native format was. Once I get the thing right I am going to convert it over to NTSC.

Can anybody help with my audio issue? I'd like to still use virtualdubmod if possible unless there is something easier to remove the AVI audio.

Thanks all, I appreciate your help!

Finally!

I used Apollo DivX to DVD to convert the AVI and create my DVD. This software does exactly what it claims in it's advert. Quality is exactly the same as it's previously converted AVI format. I highly recommend this software for not only it's quality craftsmanship and guaranteed result. It's ease of use is also a huge plus.
