Hi,
There are a few Best Buy guys here claiming that if you store a DVD-R in a case and DO NOT use it for more than a year or so it will break up the data. They claim you need to read the disc at least once a year.
This just doesn't ring as sound to me.
Anyone out there have real experience?
So far I have discs over 4 years old and no break down.

Good Article, Just think ten years ago was the question was ...how long will my VHS Collection last? Well all my Vhs Tapes Still play but who cares? Come to think of it i still had 8 tracks i recently gave away that worked perfectly! best buy wasn't even a thought in those days!! and i still have a cassette player in one of my cars with cassettes that are stored in the glove for years on end in the elements and they still play great!... i over heard a guy at my work saying cassettes cannot and will not last for ten years, well i wish he could hear some of mine, from sound warehouse and peaches records and tapes !!! they are just fine! so my point is don't pay any attention to those guys at best buy !!! i hate when they tell someone a load of crap like that, they want to sound like they know everything when they don't or they just want to make a sale ! thats why i hate talking to anyone at that store! /unjust p.s don't even get me started on LP's 45's or reel to reel!!! :)

Not to mention BetaMax and 8 Track. By the time the DVD degrade the technology will have advanced, so we will all be here trying to get the new way down.

Also if you want to know where the future of DVD is going look at this, DVD's just may become what VHS tapes are now extinct in the very near future

Well... Thanks guys.
I pretty much figured it was a line of crap.
The oldest discs I have are about 4 years and I checked about 20 and they still play fine.
Thanks for all the input,
Gino
