Well it all really depends on what DivX/AVI codec you use to encode the DVD Video, the quality of the codec used by whatever program makes the most difference. I suggest you download the latest K-Lite Codec Pack, and install ALL the features, it has just about every codec you'll ever need, and very high quality DivX/XVid encoders. Finally, as for what ripper to use, try the #1 DVD Ripper or the IMTOO DVD Ripper, if you use torrents here's a link:

Don't forget when using the rippers, in the options menu when selecting what codec to use, choose the DivX 6.1 Codec and set it's configuration to the "Home Theater" Profile.
